  • World No Tobacco Day 2017: FG Releases Legislative Regulations

    Our Correspondent|14 June 2017
The theme of this year’s World No Tobacco Day – Tobacco threatens us all – highlights how tobacco threatens the development of nations worldwide, and to this the World Health Organization (WHO) has called on governments around the world to implement strong tobacco control measures. These include banning marketing and advertising of tobacco, promoting plain packaging of tobacco products, raising excise taxes, and making indoor public places and workplaces smoke-free.
The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health has set up some legislative regulations that are to be implemented and enforced to the general public with strict monitoring, and they include:
    1. Prohibition of the sale of tobacco products to and by anyone below age 18.
    2. Ban of sale of cigarettes in single sticks; cigarettes must be sold in packs of 20 sticks only.
    3. Smokeless tobacco shall be sold in a minimum of a pack of 30 grammes.
    4. Ban of sale or offer for sale or distribution of tobacco or tobacco products through mail, internet, or other online devices.
    5. Prohibition of interference of tobacco industry in public health and related issues.
    6. Prohibition of smoking in anywhere on the premises of a child care facility, educational facility, and healthcare facility. Other prohibited for smoking include playgrounds, amusement parks, plazas, public parks, stadia, public transport, restaurants’ bar, and other public gathering spaces.
    7. Prosecution of owner or manager of any of the places listed above who permits, encourages or fails to stop smoking in the above listed places.
    8. Prohibition of tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship of any kind.
    9. Compliance with specified standards for content.
Meanwhile the Cross River State Commissioner for Health Dr Inyang Asibong has called on the public to quit smoking as it is dangerous and unhealthy. She made the call during a brief interview with newsmen at the ministry headquarters in Calabar.
“Almost everybody is a smoker either passively or actively, but the second hand smokers are more liable to the dangers of tobacco. Let us stop smoking. We are trying to reduce poverty and protect our health. It’s not easy but it is very doable and in the long run your health will be better with it. Let’s not give in to peer pressure and let us take care of our health holistically.”
Tobacco is very dangerous and it affects all parts of the body from the hairs on the head to the nails on our toes. It causes cancer of the lungs, breast, oesophagus, larynx, oral, bladder, kidney and ureter, and pharynx. It also causes ovarian cancer, infertility, discoloration of the nails, friability of hairs etc.
    Let’s stop smoking today!!!

An online tech product that creates the connect for a renter of a property(ies) with an anticipated borrower did hit Cross River cyberspace recently and virtually everybody is wowed by its potential NegroidHaven has gathered. This publication is about sampling the various expressed perspectives that opinion leaders in Cross River have had about the product.
It’s simply called Lend.ng., that is, ‘Lend Nigeria’. It’s an indigenous innovation by a group of tech-savvy young Nigerians who have decided to make a difference in the tech industry in Nigeria nay Africa and the world by extension. It resembles such platforms like OLX and Jiji.

    MY LEND.NG REVIEW
When I went through Lend.ng, the first thing I looked out for was it’s mission statement and vision —they were both very unique, impressive and futuristic.

I further navigated the site and was even more impressed with the high level of technical input made by the site creator and designer(s).

Going by the above observation, lend.ng pretty much reminds me of wonga.com

Wonga is the British lending company that revolutionised online lending and became a world leader in that sector around 2010 when they came up with new strategies that made them become the premium online destination for short loan seekers. This sudden mass appeal was made possible due to the concept and strategy that they brought to the table.

Lend.ng has come in with a similar style, though they’re into full-fledged e-commerce and NOT money lending. The proprietor Efio-Ita Nyok (including his colleagues) is a man of proven integrity and a very hardworking and versatile entrepreneur. I see the online revolution that happened in Europe repeating itself with Lend.ng. Lend.ng has come to stay.

    Ekeng Inyang
The initiative by Efio-Ita Nyok and his brainy colleagues is really recommended.

A site you can rent or buy and also sell anything you want within and outside Cross River State.

Way to go! Let’s lend and rent @ www.lend.ng

In the face of the present harsh economic realities that up until now mystifies Nigerians and the concomitant dash hopes for the promising change that suddenly turned against the tides of hopes, young Nigerians like Efio-Ita Nyok keep pushing through as he ceased the opportunity to launch a platform lend.ng that not only meets the needs of the people by giving them a plethora of options to rent items such as furniture, kitchen wares, gadgets, automobiles, etc. but gives you and me the platform to rent out our properties as well.

What are you waiting for? Kindly visit www.lend.ng and see for yourself how you can take advantage of this platform to either rent items you are not able to own due to financial constraints or make money from the comfort of your bedroom by renting out your gadgets, furniture, and other household utensils rather than have them depreciate. You too can make some cool cash you know!

One of my student that have not let me in doubt of his ingenuity, creativity and integrity is Efio-Ita Nyok. I was so elated when he and his colleagues came up with a new initiative lend.ng —a new business initiative for renting and borrowing. I feel so elated by this ingenuity and urge friends and followers to key into the business, more so because of how the young Nyok has defined himself as one to be trusted. lend.ng is a platform that allows for anyone to rent anything at anytime at affordable prices.

It also helps professional lenders or any other person to rent their property to anticipated ‘lendees’, by creating an account and uploading properties.

LendNG is the new way to buy. Why buy when you may not need it again? Why buy when you may end up using at long intervals say six months? Why continue servicing a property when you hardly use it? Why not just rent it?

In lend.ng, both the professional rental company and the ordinary individual who has rentable properties can make money. LendNG is a demonstration of the authenticity in the trending movement referred to as the Sharing Economy.

    to stay!

If Na oyibo bring this one now una for don dey rush… Oya make we rush this one o!

Well-done my dear friend Efio Ita Nyok. More grease.

I’ve soared the Internet and try to know the communications between users, especially trading, but only few interrelationships were drawn… Until I came across Lend.Ng, a growing market that suits every interests.

Most times, I’ve been faced with carrying out a task where I don’t have the necessary tools, and you know what? I lost it all out, when trying to get to a shop to rent the needed tools. What I mean is that, the job was given to someone with the available materials. Aw! That really hurts, for a job of 150k was drawn away like that, just because of a tool. I kept beating my boots, and over the time, I’d have to buy equipments I don’t actually need after a first use.

Sometime ago, I needed to show my tourist friends around Calabar but how did I end up that day; paying more than 50k for a cab we had to push sometimes along the way. I hid my head in shame that day, upon the hyping I gave to my city – I vowed to get a car soon, but would that stop my business? Nope, I still have to hang in there until all is finally settled.

If there was a vibrant online market like LendNg, that experience couldn’t had occurred and the lost could’ve been accrued for something big.

With LendNG, you can hire your wedding wears, a car, truck, electronic, media equipment like camera, lamp, etc. Others including tent for events, jewelries, bicycles, sporting equipments, mobile and computer gadgets, and lots more.

I would’ve said, LendNg, why coming this later, but it’s better late than never.

Try Lend.Ng today, your number 1 store for buying and lending. You can shop/lend anywhere you are in Nigeria. You’d love it! I bet you to try it!

  • CRUTECH: State gov't recalling students themselves is a slap on varsity's authority —Int'l Dev Consultant

    Efio-Ita Nyok|24 May 2017
International development consultant, political scientist, social entrepreneur and public affairs analyst, Mr Princewill Odidi, has frowned at Cross River State Government’s unilateral decision, Tuesday, to recall students of Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) without conferring with the management of the University NegroidHaven can report.
According to Mr Odidi that action of the state governor through his Commissioner for Education, Mr Godwin Etta, is administratively wrong. He contended that the state governor would have consulted with the varsity’s management.
Such an action would compel the school authority to lost her integrity in the face of the students.
Hear him: ‘Administratively this is wrong. The Governor should have consulted with the University management and allow the management recall the students back to class. With that the management retains her integrity with the students.
‘The state government recalling the students themselves is a slap on constituted authority in the school. In developed climes, the action of the governor through his commissioner going on press to take an alternate stand against the school means a vote of no confidence on the administration of the school.
Mr Odidi has observed that, given such scenario, the Vice-Chancellor and the entire governing board of CRUTECH should resign.  ‘Ordinarily the VC and entire governing board should resign to save face’.
Recall that on Monday 22 May the school was shut down by the management because of students protest against Management decision to implement the No-fees-no-exams policy. On Tuesday 23 May, the Commissioner for Education, Mr Ettah, ordered the resumption of the CRUTECH.

  • D.I.G commends Neo Black Movement for donating building to police in C’ River

    Efio-Ita Nyok|21 May 2017
MR Emmanuel Inyang, the Deputy Inspector General of Police coordinating police operations in the south-south states has commended the Neo Black Movement, a Pan African organization for constructing and handing over a building for the Cross River Police Command.
Mr Inyang who made the commendation on Saturday evening in Calabar during the 13th annual lecture and 40th anniversary celebration of the movement stated that the Neo Black Movement through its philanthropic activities has shown that it was an organisation with good intentions for the development of society.
Mr Inyang who spoke through the Cross River Police Commissioner, Mr Hafiz Inuwa stated that the  building was constructed with surprising speed adding that the police is underfunded and has inadequate personnel to man every nook and cranny of the country and therefore should be assisted by the people through provision of working tools and supply of information  to enhance their operations.
“The police as we know it today is underfunded and the number of policemen cannot go round everybody as required by the United Nations so what the police needs is for the members of the public to partner with us by assisting us though the provision of working tools like vehicles, buildings, walkie  talkie and also giving us information about criminals around them”. Inyang stated
He said members of the public have the right to arrest anyone seen committing a crime and subsequently hand over such a person to the police for integration before being charged to court.
“Criminals live among us and some us of know them but sometimes people who know them keep quiet and such conspiracy of silence breeds crime which should not be the case because no one is immune to being attacked by hoodlums”
Mr Cosmas Ndukwe, the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly in a lecture on curbing youth restiveness stated that going by the United Nations definition of a youth which is those  between the ages of 15 and 24, most restive activities are carried out by those who are adults but the blame is heaped on the youths
“People who are youths are those between the ages of 14 and 25 and this class of people  are  mostly primary and secondary school students and you  see a man who is forty or fifty engaging in restiveness instead of rightly terming it adult restiveness we still term it  but they are said to be youths restiveness”
He said what will stem restiveness in Nigeria is good governance and justice because people would continue to agitate and demand for their rights where  they feel  ill treated  or subjected to acts of injustice at any given time.
“The Neo Black Movement is at the vanguard for the fight against injustice by anyone and we  will continue to do that until the society is free of acts of oppresion and injustice”. Ndukwe concluded
