She also tasked Africans to rise up against the challenge of poor, insensitive and corrupt leaders who have continued to impoverish the continent and to explore peaceful and united opportunities towards achieving meaningful and peaceful growth and development.

She said, “African leaders are corrupt, that is the situation we all must take responsibility and find solutions. African leaders are involved in organized crimes and looting.

“Unfortunately, we are all onlookers. Why are Africans not raising eyes on this malpractices. The colonialist also looted and domiciled Africa’s wealth in Europe and United States while we are here suffering. That is why Africa is today in economic stagnation, natural disasters.

“African women should be involved in communities to participate in discussing the upliftment of women folk and ladies. Women are exploited in Africa and must be protected. Women are still being extolled rising in Africa and we have more women in politics in African countries. Africa has produced six women presidents.

“Change in climate must be a topic to African leaders to sustain our development, yet we are the poorest. Africa’s founding fathers like the late Nnamdi Azikiwe, laid the foundation of Nigeria’s birth. We should take inspiration from his legacies.”

On his part, Obi, who was the guest of honour, said unless Nigerians and Africans dismantle criminality amongst their leaders, the continent would continue to remain in dire stretch and irreconcilable woes.

Herdsman escapes death as suspected gunmen kill 20 cows, injure others in Anambra

    By Ovat Abeng

A cattle rearer, Haruna Mohammed on Monday escaped death as some persons suspected to be gunmen invaded his settlement at Mgbaukwu Community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, killing 20 cows and injured others.

The leader of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MCBAN) in the Southeast, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, who disclosed this while briefing journalists in Awka on Wednesday also noted that the entire fulani family in the state are currently living in fear over the incident.

He said the Police and Vigilante in the area are aware of the attacked, noting that the gunmen are still laying siege at the scene of the incident.

He noted that no life was loss during the attacked.

Alhaji Siddikki, said “I came to know about the incident when the owner of the cows Mr. Haruna Mohammed called me on Friday November 10, 2023 and told me that he heard an announcement in the community that some people suspected to be gunmen are planning to attack his cows, then I advised him to relocate the cows to neighbouring communities of Amanuke and Ebenebe with immediate effect, in which he obeyed but to our unimaginable surprise the gunmen got the relocation information and trail Mr Mohammed and his cows to Amanuke town where they ambush them on Monday and in the process, a total of 20 cows worth about N14 million were killed and others injured.

“Mr Mohammed was born and breed in the community. He is a peace loving man who has friends and has been participating in every ceremony that happens in the town.

“I don’t know why he should be rewarded in such inhuman treatment.

“Before the execution of the act, I called the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North LGA, Comrade Thankgod Anago and informed him about the threat, but he could not do anything to prevent the ugly situation. Our people are currently living in fear across the state couple with the economic hardship in the country. And as I am speaking to you now, the gunmen are still laying siege at the scene of the attack alongside with the cows.”

  • Anambra remains APGA land – Soludo replies APC

Anambra remains APGA land – Soludo replies APC

    By Ovat Abeng

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, through his Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, has responded to the claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will die a natural death in 2025.

Aburime said the APC doesn’t exist in Anambra state.

Aburime, who disclosed this while speaking to Journalists in his office at the Government House Awka, on Wednesday, said the APC state chairman Mr. Basil Ejidike, spoke from the figment of his own imagination because no such thing would ever happen in 2025.

He said Anambra State is APGA land and will forever remain APGA land because the people have come to accept the All Progressives Grand Alliance as their own political movement and there is absolutely nothing the APC or other opposition parties can do about it.

The governor’s press secretary maintained that Anambra is not Imo State and that the APC-led federal government led by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a known democrat and lover of democracy who will not like to interfere with elections in other states and this Anambra APC people equally know fully well that APC does not exist in Anambra and will never exist in Anambra state because this is APGA land.

On the comparison between Anambra and Ebonyi State, the governor’s aide maintained that there is absolutely no basis for comparison because even the opposition elements could see what Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has been able to achieve in less than two years in office.

Aburime said, “We have been hearing what Basil Ejidike, the state chairman of APC in Anambra has been saying. It’s like he is not part of the people living in Anambra State. He keeps saying that Soludo has done nothing; maybe he must have been going around blindfolded.

“There are roads for him to see. There are other infrastructures for him to see. There are so many things Soludo is doing and every normal human being is seeing them. Something must be wrong with Basil Ejidike. He needs to check his entire psychological being to ensure that he is actually a normal person.

“There is no basis for comparing Ebonyi and Anambra because Ebonyi has been a state that was under a governor for 8 years. Soludo is just 2 years in office and look at what he has done so far. He can even match up to other states where a governor has been there for 8 years.

“In less than 2 years, Soludo has turned the entire state into a construction site and it is only a blind man that will say he is not seeing what Soludo is doing in Anambra State. But our consolation lies in the fact that Ndi-Anambra are happy with what Soludo is doing and they are ready to support him.

“Let me tell Basil Ejidike that Anambra is APGA land and Ndi-Anambra will forever support APGA because APGA is naturally our party.”

Aburime, who gave further clarifications, said they were used to perennial and serial contestants like those the APC state chairman mentioned in his claims but according to him, Soludo is far ahead of such characters, stressing that when the die is cast, Soludo’s works will speak vigorously for him.

He said APGA is not shaking one bit because it is fully on ground in Anambra State and APC according to him, is not on ground even as he pointed out that what the APC does is to go about bribing journalists with money to project wrong information about the state.

“We know them. Those who have been here have seen what Soludo has done so far and they are proud of him. Soludo is not a politician but a statesman. So you can’t compare politicians with no ideology to Soludo who is a statesman and has his own philosophy and ideology he is pursuing.

“Soludo is the only governor that has shown so much empathy and compassion for the downtrodden. Soludo’s government is a government of the poor and the downtrodden. His free education policies, free antenatal and delivery services and gifts for nursing mothers.

“Soludo is a governor for the poor and that is why Ndi-Anambra are happy with him. Let me make it categorically clear that power belongs to the people and the people are with Soludo.

“APC does not exist in Anambra State. They are just noisemakers in the media. Anambra APC is blind to Soludo’s achievements. They are just being mischievous unnecessarily,” Aburime stated.

Anambra elders raise alarm over alleged plot to assassinate them

    By Ovat Abeng

Some elders of Agbiligba, a village in Nanka Community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have raised alarm over alleged attempt on their lives by gunmen suspected to be sponsored by some political and religious leaders within the community.

The elders called on the state government, security agencies and the general public to hold Hon. Okwudili Ezewankwor; the traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo; the President General of Nanka Patriotic Union, Rev. Cannon John Ezeke and their supporters responsible should anything unpleasant happened to them.

They alleged that they are being threatened with assassination because they refused to dance to their tune.

They noted that the Young Progressive Party (YPP) Ward Chairman, late Joseph Mohale, that was gruesomely murdered few days ago by yet-to-be-identified persons after he organised a meeting between the House of Representatives member representing Orumba North/Orumba South Federal Constituency, Chinwe Nnabuife and her Nanka constituency members, was also a victim of the leadership crisis rocking the community over “Isi Nze Tittle”.

They also alleged that late Mohale was  not only killed for political reason but for standing on the path of truth, fairness and justice.

The elders raised the alarm while addressing journalists shortly after meeting with the State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftancy and Community Matters, Tony Collins Nwabunewanne in his office at the Government House Awka, on Tuesday.

Spokesperson for the elders and legal adviser of Nze-Ozo Agbiligba Tittle Holders, Dr (Barr.) Chidozie Ezeozue, while speaking further on the leadership crisis rocking the community, explained that Isi-Nze Agbiligba Nanka Tittle remains the bone of contention.

“To be honest with you the media, the community is existing in two faction, one faction is led by the traditional ruler, Igwe Ezeilo and the other is led by us.

“The crisis started when the Igwe led-faction suggested that the Isi-Nze title that have been in existence for over 400 years should be rotational, which our faction rejected it vehemently. Despite our rejection, they go ahead and install one Chief David Ezewankwor as the new Isi-Nze Agbiligba Nanka without following custom and tradition of the land.

“Isi-Nze position is given based on seniority traditionally and not as political appointment.

“Selection of Isi-Nze Agbiligba Nanka must be done through it usual process. It is done according to seniority not by age but by ranking as Nze-Ozo title holder. Ichie David Ezewankwor is in the second rank, he cannot be Isi-Nze Agbiligba Nanka for now, even in the next 50-years.

“Isi-Nze Agbiligba Nanka is not rotational. It’s being controlled by one unit of the community. The selection of Isi-Nze position is not a political office. The tradition has been there for over 400 years.

“For peace to reign in Nnaka Community, Ichie David Ezewankwor must step down from the position and allow the rightful owners, who are also his senior, in persons of Rev Fr (Prof.) Romanus Ikechukwu Moneke or Ichie Paul Ezeobi Ejimofor to manned the leadership. We appeal to the State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo to come into Nnaka Community to checkmate the excesses. We also call on the security agencies to ensure that those behind the killing of the YPP Ward Chairman are brought to book,” Ezeozue added.

The State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftancy and Community Matters, Tony Collins Nwabunewanne, in his brief response, assured the elders that the government will do everything humanly possible to resolve the tussle amicably.

Several attempts to reach Hon. Okwudili Ezenwankwor, the traditional ruler and the President General on their mobile phones for reaction on the accusation that they are the ones fueling the crisis were not successful as at the time of filing this report.

Soludo still owing my aides disengagement allowances – Obiano laments

    By Ovat Abeng

Former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has lamented over long delayed by his successor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo to pay his political appointees their disengagement allowances.

In a press release by his publicist, Mr Tony Nezianya, Obiano in a tone that depicted anger told Soludo to pay his former aides their disengagement allowances.

Spilling a secret agreement both men entered, before he bowed out of office, Obiano said the plan was for Soludo to reengage his aides, but told him to at least pay them their disengagement allowance if he can not retain them.

Nezianya in the press statement quoted Obiano as saying to Soludo, “I urge Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to fulfil his promise to pay a disengagement allowance to all my political appointees, a promise he made to them in Aguleri at the point of his departure.

”If you cannot re-engage them, you can at least pay their outstanding allowances. This will be a more fitting way to end their glorious tenure as well reward them for ensuring your victory (at) polls,” Obiano said.

Meanwhile, in the release, Obiano said that rumours about his plan to leave APGA were untrue.

Nezianya said: “Chief Obiano’s eight-year tenure as the Governor of Anambra State, he consistently demonstrated his dedication and loyalty to APGA, both in words and actions.

“Throughout his time in office, he championed the ideologies and principles of APGA, working tirelessly to promote its agenda and ensure the party’s continued success.

“It is, therefore, evident that Chief Willie Obiano has no plans to abandon APGA or join another political party. He said it that ‘I have no plan now or in future to leave the party”,

“His unwavering support for APGA shows his long-standing commitment to the party and its values. Speculation in a section of the media that he plans to jump ship are misguided,” Nezianya stated.

Ifeanyi Ubah Condemns Killing Of YPP Ward Chairman In Anambra

    By Ovat Abeng

The Senator representating Anambra South Senatorial District, Senator Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah (APC), has condemned in strong terms, the gruesome murder of Chief Joseph Ezenwegbu(Joe Mohale), the Young Progressive Party YPP Chairman of Nanka ward 1 in Orumba North LGA of Anambra state.

The Paradise News had earlier reported that Mr Joseph Ezenwegbu was reportedly gunned down on Saturday night, a few moments after organising a meeting of the YPP stakeholders and party faithful, which received Hon Princess Chinwe Nnabuife in Nnaka.

Ubah while condemning the act in a statement, said “This is not the Anambra we know. This has shown the desperation of some political players in Anambra, and this is a dangerous trend that must be nipped in the bud as a matter of urgency by bringing the perpetrators to book.

“We condemn in strong terms this unfortunate incident, which, if not checked, will assume another dimension. It’s also uncalled for that anyone would threaten Hon.Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, the honourable member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, and the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate for the rerun election in the Federal Constituency.

Read Also: APC’s landslide victory in Imo shows Uzodimma’s acceptability: Gov Alia

“It would be recalled that the Appeal Court had ordered a re-run election in some parts of Nanka community in  Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, following a petition filed challenging Hon. Nnabuife’s victory at the polls by a former occupant of the seat and the 2023 candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the same position, Hon. Okwudili Ezenwankwo.

“Hon. Nnabuife was declared winner of the election and sworn in after the 2023 General Election, while Hon. Ezenwankwo approached the court to declare him the winner. The question is, who is afraid of Hon.Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, and why the desperate resort to threat and gruesome killing?

“It’s unfortunate that those thugs that called the late Chief Joseph Ezenwegbu ( popularly known as Joe Mohale) a saboteur while carrying out the dastardly act, are the real saboteurs of the Nanka people’s right to freedom of association, belief and the other basic tenets freely exercised in all democratic societies. This gruesome killing has indeed drawn us back to the dark days of thuggery and maiming that the state witnessed in the era of the PDP in Anambra state, spanning from 1999-2006, which must not be allowed to resurface.

“This unfortunate incident has indeed thrown my supporters in the state into deep mourning, but we are not deterred as we will follow every legitimate means, to seek justice for Chief Ezenwegbu, our hero, who was murdered in active service.

“I commiserated with the family of the deceased and will take full responsibility for the burial, while also catering to the welfare of his immediate family left behind, including his only child Ifeanyichukwu, a three year old boy.

“We call on all our supporters in Nanka to remain calm and be rest assured that no stone will be left unturned in getting to the root of this dastardly act and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

“We also call on the security agencies to ensure that those who committed this heinous crime against humanity as well as their sponsors are arrested to face the full wrath of the law.

“We condole with the wife and family of the deceased and pray that God, in his infinite mercy, grants him eternal rest,” the statement concluded.
