Anambra APC frowns over Umahi’s comment on Soludo’s three years achievements

    By Ovat Abeng

Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress APC, has expressed dissatisfaction over the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi’s comments on governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s three years in office.

The party alleged that the praises is an indication that the Minister is fully supporting the second term agenda of governor Soludo ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in the state.

Recall that the Minister, during the official flagged off of the construction of phase 2B access road to the second Niger bridge at Ogbunike/33 Nkwelle Junction along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway of the state lauded the governor’s tremendous achievements within a space of three years in office.

Reacting further on the commendation, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Dr. Valentine Iliobi while briefing Journalists at the party’s Secretariat in Awka, on Thursday, described Umahi’s comments as hollow, contradictory and oxymoronic.

According to him, Umahi could not have genuinely praised Soludo knowing fully well that the confused Soludo’s government promised to cut down the cost of doing business and attract investors. Yet, Anambra’s economy remains stagnant, like a car with a full tank but no driver.

“In Anambra, business owners continue to struggle under high taxes and a hostile environment like adequate power supply and organized mass transportation scheme.

“After 3 years, Soludo led government has recorded no real time value because no real effort was occasioned by the government to up the ante in the enabling environment and regulatory emplacement.

“Investors are avoiding Anambra because there is no confidence in the government’s policies. The much-promised industrial-tech revolution is still a mirage in the desert of broken promises.

Anambra has the potential to be the economic heartbeat of the Southeast, but under Soludo, the pulse is weak, and the heartbeat is fading.

“However, aside Minister Dav Umahi’s unguided utterances in support of his business ally Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo during his visit in Anambra State, it is equally worthy of note that Minister Dav Umahi and Gov. Chukwuma Soludo have a joint interest on the most of the Federal road Constructions in Anambra State which includes the Amawbia/Ekwulobia/Uga Federal Road, dualization of Nnewi/Okigwe Federal Road and also the recently awarded Construction of a 17.5km × 2 dual carriageway linking the newly constructed Second Niger Bridge to the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway (Phase 2B, Contract No. 8793) which also follows Monday’s flag-off of Phase 2A, which focused on an access road connecting Delta and Anambra States to the landmark bridge and knowing fully well that Minister Dav Umahi’s Construction Companies are at work in Anambra State. So, what do you expect him to say about Gov. Soludo’s reelection?

Finally, it is over for Soludo as Anambra State APC is poised to connect the State to the National politics. APC has all it takes today to take over government from Soludo.

Minister Dav Umahi’s antics and mockery on his poor infrastructural development is testimony that Soludo will end in one tenure.

“In case you don’t know, Soludo’s antics to garner the support of the Presidency were all in futility as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a core party man who is very interested in his party APC winning Anambra State Governorship election remembering fully well that Gov. Soludo supported Alhaji Atiku Abubarka of PDP in the last 2023 presidential election,” Iliobi noted.

Anambra women protest alleges land grabbing, seeks Soludo’s intervention

Aged women under the umbrella of Nimo Women Folk, has staged a peaceful protest over alleged land fraudulent activities by some Nimo community leaders suspected to loyal to the Traditional ruler of the town, His Royal Highness Igwe Maximus Ike Iliobi, in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State.

The women, who stormed the State Government House along Enugu-Onitsha Highway Awka, on Thursday, carrying placards with different inscriptions such as we need peace in Nimo with Olimax on the throne as Owelle Nimo, Nimo will never know peace, On the decision of 27th December, 2024 general meeting we stand, we stand with our husbands that Igwe Maximus Ike Iliobi must go, governor Soludo you are our only solution, governor Soludo please save us from the tyranny leadership of Igwe Ike Iliobi among others.

They called on the governor to urgently intervene.

The women, who also marched to the state House of Assembly complex to register their complaints, warned the traditional ruler to step down from to allowed another person enthroned the traditional stood of the community with immediate effect.

In an open letter addressed to Governor Soludo, signed by the National President of the women folk, Mrs Chizoba Stella Odili and over 600 others, which they made available to journalists, the women alleged that the ongoing land grabbing activities was capable of breaching the peace-building efforts of governor Soludo’s led-administration.

The letter read; “We are the women of Nimo community. We are law abiding citizens and strong adherents to the rule of law and order.

“We make these demands which we also bring by ourselves to you to buttress their importance.

“We hope that they will receive your urgent attention and immediate consideration

“We appeal to your good office Sir, to call to order our traditional ruler, Igwe Maxi Oliobi, over his insistence that a peaceful town like Nimo community, will no longer know peace during his reign. The confusion he has brought into the community has lingered for over four years now.

“The Igwe has consistently abused our traditional stool by using his position and office to intimidate and harass his subjects; we ,the women, our husbands and sons. We are appalled about the set of actions he continues to take with every sense of arrogance; using his security operatives to create fear and unease in the entire Nimo community. Thus causing serious problems and social unrest in Nimo.

    Some of the grounds upon which we make this Save Our Soul (SOS) demand include but not limited to;

Igwe Maxi Oliobi, Owelle Nimo forcefully usurped our farm lands using his position, and with the help of his security operatives intimidated us to total submission. This is the same way he treats people he does business with or employ their services. He will always flog them, and intimidate them with heavy threats when they demand for their rights.

“Igwe Maxi Oliobi uses his position to grab and sell our farm lands with his cohorts, for their selfish interests, especially those at Owa, Owe and others. Thus denying us our rights and opportunities to farm those lands. He destroyed our farm crops without any recourse to any form of compensation, in the guise that he is developing the lands, even without the approval of Nimo people.

Grabbing and selling of these lands is causing serious problems in Nimo today. Despite the commotion about this illegal acquisition and sales of people’s land, they are still insisting on continual selling of the lands.

The Igwe has severally abused the rights of our sons and husbands, by writing several petitions against them to the police anticult units, the DSS, NSCD. On several of these occasions, our husbands and children have been locked up in police cells, falsely labelled as cultists, kidnappers, miscreants, and terrorists. He is in court with some of them as at today on false accusations.

The Igwe sent his men to vandalize government water reticulation installations in Nimo; excavated and carted away the steel pipes, dismantled and removed the water pumps and power generation engines. These items are no where to be found today. The implication is that there is no hope for us to have and enjoy government public pipe borne water in Nimo again.

This unbelievable act from an Igwe has caused the State Government billions in financial losses.

The Igwe halted some individually initiated development projects that were brought to Nimo community.

He stopped Mr. Paul Chidozie (PCC) from installing solar lights along Oye Nimo axis of Neni road.

He also stopped the construction of the road that traverses his compound which Chief Emeka Chinweokwu( Obiadada Nimo) begged todo. He has by this discouraged our people from taking up developmental projects and will rather prefer that the money is brought to him for a chieftaincy title.

Awards he gives out anyhow to undeserving individuals without regards to the provisions of our constitution. He prefers to sell the titles for money. He will have problems with any person who is decent enough to refuse the offer for the Chieftaincy award which he gives out at huge cost.

Igwe Maxi Oliobi, Owelle Nimo has caused serious problems in Nimo that the people of Nimo, especially, we the women folk have lost confidence in him.

There’s no guarantee of the safety of our lives and sources of livelihood under his reign.

Equally, there’s no guarantee that Nimo will ever have peace, for meaningful economic development to ensue under his reign.

Your Excellency Sir, we appeal for your quick intervention to avoid total break down of law and order in our dear town Nimo, the women concluded.

Receiving the letter from the protesting women on behalf the government, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu and the State Commissioner for Local Government/Chieftaincy/Community Affairs, Hon Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, assure the women that the government of Prof Soludo, being a solution government will wade into the issue and result it once and for all.

Attempt to speak with the Traditional ruler probe abortive as several calls put across to his telephone line were not answered as at the time of filling this report.

Anambra South Senatorial bye-election: Coalition urges APGA, APC, PDP, others to choose candidate from Nnewi North

    By Ovat Abeng

Ahead of the planned bye election in Anambra South Senatorial District to filled the vacuum of late Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah at the National Assembly, a political group, Coalition Of Anambra South Progressives (COASOP), has called on the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, the All Progressive Congress APC, People Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party and other political parties intending to participate in the election to choose their candidates from Nnewi North Local Government Area of the State for the sake of equity.

The coalition also lamented the decaying state of infrastructure in the senatorial district following the sudden death of Senator Ubah, who represented the zone.

The Paradise News gathered  that the death which occurred eight months ago has left the district without representation, and the Coalition in a press conference, held at Gelly’s Garden in Awka on Monday complained bitterly that this has left the zone in dire straits.

Speaking further on the decaying situation,  the leader of the coalition, Mr Obi Chukwuemeka called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to quickly kickstart the process for the replacement of the late senator, giving the commission two months to do so.

The coalition which comprises of various political parties also called on political parties in the state to zone their tickets for the replacement of Ubah to Nnewi North Local Government Area, where the late senator hailed from, saying that it is equitable and right to do so.

Part of the text read at the conference stated: “As you may be aware, the Anambra South Senatorial District has been without representation in the National Assembly for some time now due to the unfortunate passing of our indefatigable senator, the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

“This void has left our people without a voice in the highest legislative body in the land. It is imperative that we take immediate action to address this anomaly—not just addressing the anomaly but doing so in such a manner that the status quo is maintained and justice is seen to have been done.

“In light of this, we call on INEC to set the stage by fixing a date for the immediate conduct of a credible by-election to fill the void. Our constitution does not envisage a situation whereby a constituency is left without representation.

“It has been more than seven months since the death of our dear Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, and in all this time, Anambra South has been denied the right to have a say in various governance issues affecting the federation.”

The group added that: “Infrastructure is decaying in Anambra South while our youths and women yearn for empowerment, but because we do not have a representative in the Senate, we have no means to access what is due to us.

“Furthermore, we are aware that the 2025 federal budget has been passed, and the absence of a representative has robbed us of our constituency allowance. We are also aware that by Q2 of 2025, the budget process for the 2026 budget would begin. INEC must ensure that this abandonment of Anambra South ends immediately.”

It called on APGA, APC, PDP, LP, and every other political party desirous of producing candidates for the by-election to see it as a call to duty and selfless service to field one from Nnewi North, to assuage the loss of the people who lost their son in active service.
