  • California man accused of beating mother to death with hammer

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (TCD) — A woman recently succumbed to her injuries almost two weeks after her son allegedly beat her with a hammer.

According to a news release from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, Nov. 19, at around 10:52 p.m., deputies responded to the 200 block of Mayfield Court to a report of a possible assault. At the scene, the sheriff’s office said deputies found 63-year-old Alison Marshall suffering from critical, life-threatening injuries.

Marshall was transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center via ambulance. Deputies also found an unidentified male victim, age 64, who was taken to a local hospital.

The sheriff’s office identified Marshall’s son, 21-year-old Scott Goldberg, as the primary suspect and apprehended him at the scene. According to the Ventura County Star, the male victim is Goldberg’s father.

Goldberg was initially arrested and booked into the Ventura County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder. His bond was set at $510,000.

On Dec. 1, the sheriff’s office posted an update and announced that Marshall died from her injuries in the hospital. Her autopsy results are pending, but her death is now being investigated as a homicide.

According to the Ventura County Star, prosecutors plan to file a murder charge against Goldberg. A judge also denied him bail at a recent court date.

  • Ark. football coach, wife arrested for allegedly making plans to have sex with children

BENTON COUNTY, Ark. (TCD) — Two people, including a minor league football coach, have been arrested following a sting operation for allegedly trying to meet up with minors for sex.

According to a probable cause affidavit, on Nov. 19, a Benton County Sheriff’s Office undercover detective reportedly received a message on an online platform from someone who said he was “into some very sick f–ked up taboos.”

The detective and the user, who communicated under the name “centralsfinest,” switched to an encrypted messaging app. Centralsfinest allegedly told the detective it would be “easy to talk to you there and we can talk about all of your naughtiest most taboo fantasies.”

The detective learned centralsfinest was allegedly two people — Benjamin Coney and his wife, Emily Brinley. Coney allegedly said his wife “likes them young,” though the affidavit redacted certain age ranges. She allegedly told Coney she wanted to see him have sex with a prepubescent girl. The conversation continued regarding certain sexual acts and desires.

According to the affidavit, Coney allegedly asked the detective to meet up with them and said they could head there immediately. The detective reportedly asked if they had lube, and Coney allegedly responded, “I don’t but I can get some.”

The detective spoke with the couple on the phone, and they allegedly shared what they intended to perform on an underage girl. Coney allegedly said he was “excited to touch” the girl.

Coney and Brinley arrived at the discussed destination and were subsequently arrested. Detectives searched their car and discovered lube, two “sexual aids,” and a receipt for the lube.

When speaking with the detective, Brinley reportedly said she “was just trying to be a good wife, and that she was not interested in children.” She allegedly claimed she “was not going to do anything with any children, and she just wanted to make him happy.” She allegedly said she “went along with Ben and repeated stuff she heard him say.”

The affidavit says Brinley told investigators she and Coney previously discussed having children together. One night when they were having sex, Coney allegedly said he “wanted to have a baby and if it was a girl he could have sex with her.” After that, Brinley reportedly started crying and refused to have sex with him again.

Coney reportedly admitted that detectives would find child sexual abuse material on his devices.

They were both booked into the Benton County Jail on charges of internet stalking of a child and conspiracy to commit rape. Both of their bonds were set at $200,000.

The Batesville Daily Guard reports Coney was the coach of a local minor league football team, the Arkansas Punishers. In a statement, the team said they terminated him from his position and that they “do not support or allow his actions at all in our organization.”

  • Marshals capture teen accused of killing mother of 4 in Ohio and fleeing

WARREN, Ohio (TCD) — Marshals recently captured a 19-year-old man in Florida who allegedly killed a mother of four in Ohio last month and then fled the state.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, on Nov. 11, Noel Flores allegedly fatally shot 26-year-old Ashante Kirksey in her home on the 900 block of Francis Avenue SE. The statement said there was another unidentified victim who had been shot at the same location.

Flores allegedly broke into Kirksey’s home before shooting her and the second victim, WFMJ-TV reports. Kirksey, a nurse, had reportedly moved into the residence approximately two weeks prior.

In a news release, U.S. Marshals said Flores was wanted on suspicion of murder, and they offered a reward of up to $2,500 for any information leading to his arrest.

The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force investigated the case and later determined Flores had fled Ohio and gone to St. Petersburg, Florida. They worked with marshals in Florida and eventually located Flores at an apartment on the 10100 block of 12th Way North on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

Marshals recovered a 9 mm firearm in his possession believed to have been used in Kirksey’s shooting death. Flores was arrested and booked into the Pinellas County Jail and will be extradited back to Ohio.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a statement, “This is another example of the dedication our task force officers put into every investigation. This fugitive attempted to evade the reach of the U.S. Marshals Service but was unsuccessful because we will never stop looking for them no matter how far they run.”

  • Convicted N.C. child rapist accused of kidnapping, sexually assaulting additional victims over the span of 9 years

RALEIGH, N.C. (TCD) — Police have identified and arrested a 59-year-old suspect accused of sexually assaulting at least 10 victims between 1995 and 2004.

According to a news release from the Raleigh Police Department, investigators gathered evidence from the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) and found a match, connecting Rickey Hall to sexual assaults that spanned the course of nearly 10 years. CODIS is a “national database that is made up of DNA profiles from convicted offenders, unsolved crime scene evidence, and missing persons.”

According to documents obtained by WRAL-TV, in 1995, Hall “willfully and feloniously did ravish and carnally know” a victim. He reportedly kidnapped, terrorized, and held the victim for ransom. WRAL reports that he allegedly grasped her neck and struck her against a wall when she attempted to flee.

Hall reportedly repeated his actions on another victim three years later, forcing her to perform “sexual servitude.” Hall allegedly strangled the victim and inflicted bodily injury as well.

According to WRAL, in each of his alleged crimes, Hall kidnapped and raped his victims and would often threaten them with various kinds of blades.

Police arrested Hall on Tuesday, Dec. 5. He was charged with 15 counts of first-degree sexual assault, 12 counts of first-degree rape, 10 counts of first-degree kidnapping, seven counts of assault –– serious bodily injury, six counts of communicating threats, five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of assault on a female one count of common law robbery, and one count of sexual assault.

Prior to his most recent arrest, Hall had reportedly been in and out of prison for approximately 18 years. According to WRAL, from 2009 until 2018, he served time for raping a child.

Hall is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 8.

  • House explodes after man fires flare gun more than 30 times while barricaded in his house

ARLINGTON, Va. (TCD) — Police are investigating a home explosion after a man barricaded himself inside Monday evening and fired a flare gun at least 30 times.

On Dec. 4 at 4:45 p.m., Arlington Police Department officers were called to a home on the 800 block of North Burlington Street because neighbors reported hearing apparent gunshots . When police arrived, they learned the homeowner, James Yoo, “discharged a flare gun approximately 30 to 40 times from inside his residence into the surrounding neighborhood.”

Arlington Police said there were no injuries or damage to nearby homes.

Detectives obtained a search warrant to enter Yoo’s home and tried to contact him via phone and loudspeaker. Yoo, however, did not respond.

In a press conference, Arlington Police Chief Andy Penn said officers deployed chemical munitions inside the residence, which are used to “to cause irritation, compelling the suspect to surrender.”

    Yoo still refused to surrender.

The other residents who lived in Yoo’s duplex had been evacuated.

When officers attempted to execute the search warrant, Yoo reportedly shot at police with a firearm. At 8:25 p.m., the house exploded.

Video taken by bystander Alex Wilson and posted on social media showed the house bursting into a fireball as a SWAT truck drives toward the door. After the blast, car alarms went off and dogs started barking.

Other images posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, show debris and parts of the home that were destroyed in the blast.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5, Arlington Police said investigators located human remains inside the home they believe are Yoo’s. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to confirm cause and manner of death.

Police do not have any prior incidents with Yoo except for two service calls over the last several years about loud noises.

According to Penn, investigators were made “aware of concerning social media posts allegedly made by the suspect,” which will be analyzed as the investigation continues.

  • Soros Groups Announces Massive Political Ad Spend Just in Time for the 2024 Election

If you claim that billionaire George Soros and his empire are attempting to shape American politics by pouring money into it, you are portrayed as a hyperventilating, fixated conspiracy theorist who sees shadowy intent behind everything the Hungarian-born financier and his Open Society Foundations do.

Unless, of course, you’re a representative of the Open Society Foundations, who observes that Soros’ empire is pouring money into American politics while claiming to be “nonpartisan.” Then it’s simply news.

According to an Associated Press report published Tuesday, the Open Society Foundations, now led by George Soros’s son Alex Soros, ““it will commit $50 million to increase civic engagement among women and young people over the next three years as part of its strategy to support democracy in the U.S..”

“In the early stages of the Trump administration, philanthropic support for organizations seeking to protect and defend progressive policy wins and to counter democratic suppression efforts surged,” Alex Soros said in a statement.

“But groups dedicated to the civic engagement of women and young people did not see similar increases in levels of support.”

According to the Associated Press, Soros’ message was that “advocacy from women and younger generations is essential to stopping the advancement of authoritarianism.”

The AP’s Thalia Beaty baselessly claimed: “The new funding is explicitly not timed to influence the 2024 presidential election, said Laleh Ispahani, the executive director of Open Society-U.S., emphasizing that the funding is nonpartisan.”

  • 3 men arrested for allegedly killing and mutilating man, then sending pictures to his family

PHOENIX (TCD) — Three gang members were arrested on murder charges for allegedly torturing and killing a 30-year-old man on a hiking trail, then sending photos of his body to his relatives.

According to KTVK-TV, Bernardo Pantaleon was found fatally shot and mutilated with “significant trauma” on a hiking trail at Mountain View Park on Nov. 26. He had reportedly been beaten, tortured, and stripped of his clothing.

Court documents cited by KTVK report one of the suspects, Leonardo Santiago, allegedly killed Pantaleon because “an unwanted advance made [Santiago] uncomfortable.” Santiago allegedly shot Pantaleon to death, then returned to the scene soon after with one of the other suspects, Manuel Carrasco-Calderon, who “mutilated the victim’s body.”

Santiago, Carrasco-Calderon, and the third co-defendant, Jose Rodriguez, allegedly previously discussed robbing and killing Pantaleon.

KSAZ-TV, which also cites court documents, reports Pantaleon’s body was left under a small tree and that he was “mutilated, postmortem, with a sharp-edged object.”

Four days after he was found dead, Pantaleon’s family reportedly received photos from Rodriguez’s social media accounts that depicted someone showing the middle finger and another of Pantaleon’s body.

The suspects reportedly communicated via group chat, and, according to court documents, “Members of the chat repeatedly asked for updates, lamented they were not invited, asked to see video/photograph proof, and one co-defendant offered to hide the co-defendant, or shooter, after the murder was completed.”

The men also allegedly made comments about Pantaleon’s sexuality because he was gay.

Santiago allegedly admitted to killing Pantaleon, while the other two reportedly told detectives they knew Santiago’s plans.

The three suspects were reportedly members of the same gang.

  • Texas man accused of slashing woman’s throat, rolling her up in plastic, and leaving her for dead in pasture

ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas (TCD) — A 31-year-old man stands accused of stabbing a woman and rolling her in plastic while he was wearing an ankle monitor last week.

On Friday, Dec. 1, at approximately 4 p.m., Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 4000 block of Eichman Road to a report of an injured woman. Once there, deputies located a female victim and concluded she had “been beaten, stabbed, and had her throat slashed.”

Atascosa County Sheriff David Soward said the woman was rolled up in plastic and “left for dead” in a pasture.

Investigators allege Roger Gonzalez attacked the woman, and they obtained an arrest warrant against him on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The sheriff’s office arrested Gonzalez in his home on Lytle Street in San Antonio.

Soward told KENS-TV the suspect and victim were in a relationship.

Gonzalez’s bond was initially set at $40,000, but a judge increased it to $275,000.

The sheriff’s office said the victim is in critical but stable condition at a San Antonio hospital.

  • FBI Director Concerned About Terrorists’ Ability to Exploit Southwest Border

Foreign terrorist organizations can exploit the southwest border as the United States faces the highest risk of an attack following the Hamas onslaught in Israel, according to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray. The FBI chief revealed that terrorist threats to the nation have skyrocketed since October during testimony this week before the Senate Judiciary Committee. In his prepared statement Wray failed to include the dire security threats created by the Biden administration’s disastrous open border policies. The crucial information only surfaced and became part of the official record because a Republican lawmaker grilled Wray about it.

The hearing, called “Oversight of the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” touched on the agency’s mission to tackle grave threats and ensure the safety and security of communities throughout the nation. Wray’s prepared statement covered what the FBI is doing to address the threats while adhering to the highest of standards. “As we saw in early October with the devastating attack in Israel, terrorist actors are still very intent on using violence and brutality to spread their ideologies,” Wray told the committee. “Protecting the American people from terrorism remains the FBI’s number one priority. The threat from terrorism is as persistent and complex as ever. We are in an environment where the threats from international terrorism, domestic terrorism, and state-sponsored terrorism are all simultaneously elevated.” The FBI director identified “lone actors or small cells of individuals who typically radicalize to violence online” as the greatest terrorism threat to the homeland.

He mentioned the FBI’s concern about the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan and the intent of groups such as ISIS and al-Qa’ida to carry out or inspire large-scale attacks in the U.S. Wray also spoke about cybercriminal syndicates that compromise our networks and foreign intelligence threats such as China, Russia and Iran, which are more aggressive and capable than ever. Violent crimes and gang activities—including robbery, human trafficking, drug and gun trafficking, fraud, extortion and prostitution rings—also made the list as did Transnational Organized Crime (TOC) characterized by families that exert influence over criminal activities in neighborhoods, cities or states. The FBI chief also delved into crimes against children, revealing that every year thousands of kids are kidnapped, violently attacked, sexually abused or trafficked. He closed by asking Congress to reauthorize a section of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) created after 9/11 that allows the U.S. government to collect the communications of foreigners outside the country without a warrant. Wray thanked the committee and took questions.

If not for the question-and-answer portion of the hearing the FBI director would have completely omitted the illegal immigration crisis along the southwest border as a security threat to the country. The information surfaced during an exchange with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Graham said: “One of my concerns is after [the withdrawal from] Afghanistan, we put international terrorism on steroids. Are you concerned that international terrorism threats to the homeland are rising as the [southern] border continues to be broken?” Wray responded: “I am concerned that we are in… a heightened threat environment from foreign terrorist organizations for a whole host of reasons and obviously their ability to exploit any port of entry, including our southwest border… We have seen an increase in so-called KSTs, ‘known or suspected terrorists’, attempting to cross over the last five years.” Wray added that the “threat level has gone to a whole other level since October 7.”
