  • California man allegedly punched man while he was pushing infant granddaughter in stroller

CALABASAS, Calif. (TCD) — Deputies have located and arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting a grandfather while he was pushing his infant granddaughter in a stroller this week.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at around 4:30 p.m., deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills Station received two calls regarding separate “unprovoked attacks on unsuspecting victims,” a male juvenile and a 60-year-old man.

The sheriff’s office posted a bulletin of the suspect’s photo in an attempt to identify him. Officials allege he parked his 2005 silver Honda Odyssey at a nearby home, went up to the 60-year-old victim as he was walking his granddaughter, and “struck” him in the face in the 4000 block of Lost Springs Road before fleeing the scene.

According to KABC-TV, the victim fell to the pavement, and the stroller collapsed to its side. The grandfather and his 10-month-old granddaughter did not suffer serious injury.

Sgt. Brandon Painter told KABC the suspect allegedly assaulted the second victim, a 10-year-old boy, on a bike path minutes later. The sheriff’s office did not specify the severity of the child’s injury.

Deputies located the suspect, Angel Sanchez Jr., the next day in Oxnard and arrested him on a charge of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury.

Both victims were of Asian American/Pacific Islander descent, but the sheriff’s department said the “motive for the attacks is currently under investigation.”

  • Former Army officer accused of killing his parents and 4 others in 2 different cities

AUSTIN, Texas (TCD) — A 34-year-old former Army lieutenant was arrested this week after he allegedly went on a shooting spree in two different cities, killing six people and injuring several others.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar identified the suspect as Shane James. One of James’ siblings last spoke with their parents, Phyllis James and Shane James Sr., on the night of Dec. 4 at approximately 10 p.m. The next morning at 9 a.m., a neighbor noticed that James Sr.’s car wasn’t in the driveway, which he found “odd.”

Police in Austin called the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office on the morning of Dec. 5 and said they had a suspect in custody. Officials asked Bexar County deputies to check the Jameses’ home, and when they arrived, they noticed water had been leaking out of the door. They found that “strange,” and received clearance to force entry in the home. When they got inside, they discovered Phyllis James and Shane James Sr. deceased inside a small room.

Salazar said the victims were likely killed between 10 p.m. on Dec. 4 and 9 a.m. on Dec. 5.

The next several incidents occurred in Austin, which is just under two hours from San Antonio. At 10:43 a.m., Austin Police responded to an officer needs assistance call on the 7200 block of Berkman Drive because an Austin Independent School District Police Department officer had been shot. He was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

KXAN-TV reports the victim, Sgt. Val Barnes, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was discharged from the hospital Dec. 6.

About an hour later, at 11:59 a.m., Austin Police received multiple calls about a shooting on the 7300 block of Shadywood Drive. When police arrived, they found Emmanuel Pop Ba and Sabrina Rahman shot. Pop Ba was pronounced dead at the scene. Medics transported Rahman to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.

The third incident occurred in the early evening at 5:47 p.m. when police learned a cyclist had been shot at 5701 W. Slaughter Lane. That victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

At 6:48 p.m., Austin Police responded to a robbery in progress call on the 5300 block of Austral Loop and found James in the backyard. He allegedly “fired several gunshots” at an officer, who shot back. One officer was shot multiple times and moved to find cover. Police went inside the home and found two more victims deceased from gunshot wounds.

The officer was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and he has since been released.

James fled the scene, but was apprehended after he crashed his car about 30 minutes later.

James was previously arrested Jan. 6, 2022, for three counts of assault causing bodily injury for allegedly attacking his parents and a sibling. On Jan. 14, 2022, a victims advocate from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office reached out to James’ parents, who reportedly said James “does not belong in jail. He has mental health issues.”

According to KXAN, James was stationed at Fort Cavazos (formerly known as Fort Hood) as an infantry officer with the 1st Cavalry Division. Then, he served as a first lieutenant. He was reportedly never deployed during his time in the Army.

Travis County Jail records show James is being charged with multiple counts of capital murder. He will also face charges in Bexar County.

  • Georgia Army wife allegedly fatally stabbed 11-month-old because she wanted him to 'be with Jesus'

FORT EISENHOWER, Ga. (TCD) — A 30-year-old Army spouse stands accused of killing her 11-month-old child with a weapon in the presence of her two other children.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia, on Nov. 15, April Short of Fort Eisenhower allegedly “used a knife to cut the neck of an 11-month-old child” while she “engaged in the knowing and willful perpetration of child abuse.” The victim was transported to Eisenhower Army Medical Center and pronounced dead.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by WSB-TV, April Short texted James Short, a military staff sergeant at Fort Eisenhower, and made references to God. She allegedly said to him, “The days of darkness are upon us.”

James Short went home and reportedly found his wife shuttered inside a bedroom with their 11-year-old, 6-year-old, and 11-month-old. April Short would not leave the room, and authorities arrived on scene to help get her out.

According to WSB, April Short eventually left the bedroom with her 11-year-old and 6-year-old, and she walked out of the home with them.

James Short and the officers reportedly entered the bedroom and found the 11-month-old child suffering from stab wounds.

April Short allegedly tried to drive away with the two other children, but officers stopper her and took her into custody.

According to WSB, Short confessed to injuring the 11-month-old child. The two other children reportedly told police their mother said she stabbed the victim so the child could “be with Jesus and God.”

On Wednesday, Dec. 6, the attorney’s office announced that a federal jury indicted Short on charges of premeditated murder and felony murder. She is in custody with the U.S. Marshals Service.

  • Iowa man allegedly kidnapped ex, slashed her throat, and ran her over with his car

DES MOINES, Iowa (TCD) — A 40-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend, bound her with tape, tortured her, then left her outside a hospital.

On Saturday, Dec. 2, at 9 p.m., the Osceola Police Department contacted Des Moines Police to report a situation at Clark County Hospital regarding a female who said she had been kidnapped. She told police her ex-boyfriend, Jordan Mangum, went to her home at approximately 2:30 a.m., tied her up with duct tape, and took her against her will.

The 32-year-old victim said she was taken to a home in Indianola and kept captive. Then, the suspect allegedly drove her to an unknown location, choked her, slashed her throat, and ran her over with his vehicle. Des Moines Police said the victim “pleaded for her attacker to stop.”

  • Tennessee woman accused of fatally stabbing ex-husband during dispute about movie

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (TCD) — A 49-year-old woman stands accused of killing her ex-husband this week during an argument about watching a movie.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5, the Memphis Police Department responded to a report of a domestic incident at 3713 Robin Park Circle. Inside the home, officers found a male victim suffering from stab wounds, and he was transported to Regional One Health, where he died from his wounds.

Officers apprehended a female, identified by WATN-TV as Tasha Williams, at the scene.

According to an affidavit obtained by WATN, Williams told police that she and her ex-husband, Michael Williams, were drinking when they got into a dispute. The victim allegedly wanted to go to another location to watch a movie, but Tasha Williams did not, and he knocked her glasses. Tasha Williams sustained a cut near her eye as a result.

  • Covid Vaccine Hesitancy on the Rise Among America’s Healthcare Workers

‘Vaccine hesitancy,’ as it came to be known during the Covid pandemic, was a derisive term deployed against purportedly uneducated and ignorant Americans who didn’t want to just take the word of America’s so-called “medical experts” as they pushed them to take relatively untested jabs without any long-term safety data.

But, it turns out, that the great majority of medical experts that work throughout the United States has either stopped believing in the necessity of the Covid “boosters” due to natural immunity, the mildness of the latest variants, or a general belief that there is no urgency to get them.

This is as demonstrated by the actions of medical professionals and not their advice to the general public.

“Despite the higher risk that the coronavirus poses to older adults, a surprisingly low share of nursing home staff and residents are up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations,” Fox News reported on Thursday.  “Only six states are indicating that over 10% of staff members are updated on their vaccines, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).”

“Overall updated vaccination rates are higher among residents — but still fall short of the CDC’s recommendations,” the report added. “Only three states have more than 50% of residents with a fully updated vaccination status.”

However, it should be noted that there is absolutely no evidence that getting the latest Covid jabs does not significantly stop the spread of the virus; therefore, the personal health decision of a medical worker whether to get the Covid jab or not has no bearing on the safety of their patients.

Only 2% of health care workers in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Mississippi, South Carolina, and West Virginia have had their recommended vaccines in the past 30 days.

Vaccination rates for nursing home staff are 3% or lower in Nebraska, Washington, Ohio, Indiana, and Georgia.

Out of all the states, only New Mexico (19%), Alaska (13%), Vermont (13%), Hawaii (11%), Rhode Island (11%), and New Jersey (11%), had health care worker immunization rates higher than 10%.

It should be noted, however, that the at-risk should take special care to discuss the Covid jabs with their doctors, since the statistics suggest they are more likely to have negative outcomes from contracting a SARS-CoV-2 viral variant.

When it comes to residents at nursing homes, the states with the lowest share of fully vaccinated residents are South Carolina (18%), Alabama (16%), Texas (15%), Arkansas (12%) and Arizona (10%).

Among the 50 states, the percentage of residents whose vaccines were up-to-date was the highest are South Dakota (57%), North Dakota (55%), Vermont (55%), New Hampshire (47%), and Alaska (46%).

“Nursing home patients are at a high risk for serious COVID infections, as they are kept close together, are elderly, and almost all have underlying health conditions,” Dr. Marc Siegel, clinical professor of medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center and a Fox News medical contributor, told Fox News Digital.

“While the staff may be low risk themselves, and though the COVID vaccine does not prevent spread, it does decrease viral load at least transiently, meaning the risk of transmitting COVID is lower, at least for a few months,” he added.

As of fall 2022, 96% of Americans had at least some antibodies for fighting Covid-19, according to the CDC.

  • Ill. man accused of running over woman he met on dating app during argument

DES PLAINES, Ill. (TCD) — A woman was sent to the hospital after a man she met on a dating app allegedly ran her over with his car because they got into an argument.

According to a crime report by the Des Plaines Police Department, on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 4:28 a.m., a patrolling officer heard a scream from a woman who was found knocking on a store’s front door. The officer made contact with the woman, who said she had been struck by a car. The police report noted the woman’s “clothes were wet and disheveled, showing signs of an incident occurring.”

Des Plaines Fire Department officials arrived at the scene and took the woman to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation, police learned the victim and Jose Roldan Vazquez matched on a dating app and the two met in a parking lot across the street from where she was found. The victim got into Vazquez’s SUV and they left the lot. They reportedly returned to the parking lot, where they got into a verbal argument. The woman got out of the car during the dispute “to get away from Roldan Vazquez.”

After she exited the vehicle, he allegedly drove into her and she fell. Surveillance video from nearby businesses reportedly showed Vazquez’s SUV hitting the victim and knocking her down.

Des Plaines Police officers went to Vazquez’s home in Mount Prospect and arrested him on charges of aggravated battery and failure to report a personal injury motor vehicle accident. Police also ticketed him for operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

  • Florida man sentenced for killing ex because she ghosted him

MELBOURNE, Fla. (TCD) — A 24-year-old man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for fatally shooting his 23-year-old ex-girlfriend last year because she wouldn’t return his calls.

On Dec. 6, the Florida State Attorney’s Office for the 18th Judicial Circuit announced that a judge sentenced Carlos Jones to life in prison. A jury convicted him in September of second-degree murder in connection with the 2022 death of Sha’Dayla Johnson.

According to the state attorney’s office, on Dec. 20, 2022, shortly before 8 a.m., Melbourne Police officers responded to a home at 2827 Colbert Circle to a report of a shooting. Officers discovered Johnson unresponsive in the carport suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Johnson was transported to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Witnesses reportedly observed Jones, the victim’s ex-boyfriend, at the home at the time of the shooting. Jones and Johnson had previously lived together.

Jones eventually surrendered to police in Palm Bay at approximately 11 a.m. The state attorney’s office said he confessed to the shooting and claimed he and his ex-girlfriend had a dispute because Johnson wasn’t “responding to his phone calls or text messages.” WPEC-TV reports that Johnson was on her way to work when Jones confronted her.

Jones will serve his life sentence in the Florida Department of Corrections.

  • Florida man on death row now accused of 'brutally' killing at least 1 other woman

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. (TCD) — Investigators allege a man sitting on death row killed another woman who was “left for dead” on the side of the highway over 20 years ago.

On Dec. 5, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office announced Lucious Boyd, who was previously convicted of killing 21-year-old Dawnia Dacosta, was charged with first-degree murder and sexual battery in connection with Eileen Truppner’s death. Boyd was found guilty in June 2002 of first-degree murder, sexual battery, and kidnapping for killing Dacosta. He was sentenced to death for Dacosta’s murder and life in prison for kidnapping.

In a press conference, Sheriff Gregory Tony said Truppner is “no longer faceless and no longer nameless.”

Dacosta was reportedly killed about two weeks before Truppner.

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, on Dec. 18, 1998, a woman was dragged to the side of U.S. 27, where she “took her last breath in the grassy area where she was abandoned.” A boater discovered her body the next day. She was face-down and investigators determined there were “clear indication” that the perpetrator sexually assaulted her. The woman did not have any form of identification on her, so she became classified as a Jane Doe.

TThe sheriff’s office called the investigation an “uphill battle from the beginning,” saying the only piece of evidence they had was her clothing and a sketch. Deputies went to nearby businesses and asked if anyone had seen her, but they came up empty-handed. The case eventually went cold.

Several years later, detectives reopened the case and created a new sketch, which led to a “breakthrough” in the case. Truppner was positively identified in May.

Truppner moved to the U.S. from Puerto Rico “to start a new chapter in her life.” She had two children and a “loving family.”

Truppner’s sister said at the press conference Truppner was “very kind with a good heart,” but she went through depression after giving birth to her children.

Capt. Jonathan Brown said he and his detectives “strongly believe” Boyd is a serial killer who might have killed women all over Florida. Brown classified both victims as women “in vulnerable situations that he took advantage of.”

Tony, the sheriff, said, “Justice has no expiration date.”
