  • Middle school student dead, several others injured after shooting at Iowa high school

PERRY, Iowa (TCD) — Several people were hurt and the suspected shooter is dead after gunfire broke out at a local high school early Thursday morning.

Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante said in an initial press conference the first alert about an active shooter at Perry High School occurred at 7:37 a.m. Officers arrived within seven minutes and found multiple victims injured. Infante said it was “still unclear how many are injured or what the extent of the injuries are.”

The shooting took place before school started, which mitigated the number of victims.

Infante said the suspect had been identified, but he declined to share additional information. He emphasized that there was “no further danger to the public.”

The Associated Press reports the shooting occurred on the school’s first day back from winter break. The suspected shooter is reportedly believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Many of the victims were reportedly transported to hospitals in Des Moines, which is about 40 miles from Perry.

In an afternoon press conference, Mitch Mortvedt with the Iowa Department of Public Safety identified the shooter as 17-year-old Dylan Butler. He was armed with a pump action shotgun and small caliber handgun. Mortvedt said investigators believe Butler acted alone. Officials searched the school and reportedly found an improvised explosive device, but the Iowa State Fire Marshal and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms “rendered the device safe.”

Butler reportedly posted on social media around the time of the shooting.

According to Mortvedt, six people were injured in the shooting, not including Butler. One victim, a 6th grade student, died from their wounds. Four of the other victims are students and the last victim is a school administrator.

This is a breaking news story and will continue to be updated.

  • Father, son arrested in connection with shooting death of missing pregnant teen and her boyfriend

SAN ANTONIO (TCD) — A 53-year-old man and his 19-year-old son were arrested this week for allegedly playing a role in the shooting deaths of a pregnant teen who was supposed to be induced the day she was reported missing and her boyfriend.

On Wednesday, Jan. 3, the San Antonio Police Department announced Christopher Preciado was taken into custody on a charge of capital murder, while his father, Ramon Preciado, was arrested for abuse of a corpse because he allegedly “helped Christopher move the bodies” after Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra were killed.

San Antonio Police Sgt. Washington Moscoso said the killings were allegedly the result of a “narcotics-related deal that went bad.”

Eighteen-year-old Soto and 23-year-old Guerra were reported missing Dec. 23 to the Leon Valley Police Department. Her family became concerned because she was past her due date.

The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a CLEAR Alert for Soto, which is when officials believe an “individual is in imminent danger or disappearance is involuntary.” The notice said Soto was driving in a gray Kia Optima.

Police previously released surveillance footage that shows a Kia Optima Guerra and Soto were traveling in stop next to a dark pickup truck. After a few moments, the cars drove away in different directions. The interaction reportedly occurred near where Soto and Guerra’s bodies were found on the 5900 block of Danny Kaye on Dec. 26.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said after the discovery that investigators believed the bodies had been in the car at the address for “possibly three to four days.” He called it a “very, very perplexing crime scene.”

Moscoso said Soto and Guerra were fatally shot Thursday, Dec. 21, just after midnight.

According to the arrest affidavit shared by KSAT-TV, Soto was found shot in the head in the front seat of the car, while Guerra was in the back with a gunshot wound to the head. The affidavit said it appeared that Guerra “had been dragged into the vehicle.”

Investigators spoke with Soto and Guerra’s families and learned Guerra sold drugs. He allegedly communicated with buyers via text and social media, and he would “post money and narcotics on Instagram.” Guerra had reportedly been shot at before.

After obtaining a warrant to search the car, detectives located shell casings in the vehicle but no weapon. Thee was reportedly blood on the outside of the car, which did not match evidence of Guerra “causing harm to the female.”

The affidavit says, “It was believed that the female and male were killed at a different location and the vehicle was driven to the recovered location.”

Soto and Guerra were reportedly already deceased by the time the car was seen in the surveillance footage.

Detectives spoke with Christopher Preciado, who allegedly shared “a version of events that were inconsistent with the evidence collected at the scene.” He reportedly said Guerra “pointed a weapon at him and Christopher was able to manipulate the weapon resulting in the female being shot.”

He allegedly said Guerra pointed the gun at him a second time, and he “manipulated the weapon again resulting in the male victim being shot.”

    Additional charges are pending.

  • N.C. father accused of fatally beating 5-year-old autistic son, causing brain hemorrhage

RALEIGH, N.C. (TCD) — A young boy died from apparent abuse-related injuries this week after his 24-year-old father allegedly abused him and caused a brain hemorrhage.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, on Sunday, Dec. 31, at around 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault on a 5-year-old child at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Hospital. Medical staff determined the child’s injuries were “consistent with a serious assault.”

An arrest warrant obtained by WRAL-TV alleges the victim, Karter Holloway, suffered a brain hemorrhage as a result of the abuse. According to WNCN-TV, the pressure caused the boy’s brain to move off-center, as well as swelling into the spinal canal and stem.

The boy was reportedly autistic and non-verbal.

Police allege the child’s father, Amir Hines, caused his son’s injuries, and officers initially arrested him on a charge of felony intentional child abuse causing serious bodily injury.

The boy’s grandmother told WRAL that Hines originally told her the child fell in the shower, but medical staff determined the victim had been “beaten all over. Karter had bruises from head to toe.”

The victim succumbed to his wounds on Monday, Jan. 1, and Hines was charged with murder the following day.

According to WRAL, Hines did not show any remorse in court.

The victim’s father remains held in the Wake County Jail without bond, records show. He was scheduled to appear in court again on Jan. 3.

At the time of the alleged abuse, Hines was reportedly on parole after his release from jail for felony robbery with a dangerous weapon.

  • Judicial Watch Sues Biden Censorship Agency for Records Targeting Judicial Watch and Its President Tom Fitton

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for failing to respond to an October 11, 2023, FOIA for all records regarding Judicial Watch and its President Tom Fitton held by DHS’ Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) (Judicial Watch Inc. v. U.S. Department of Homeland Security (No. 1:24-cv-00003).

The request specifically asked that the search for responsive records include email accounts of CISA officials publicly implicated in censorship operations.

On November 6, 2023, the House Judiciary Committee released a report detailing “how the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the Global Engagement Center (GEC, within the State Department) coordinated with Stanford University and other entities to create the Election Integrity Partnership to censor Americans’ speech in the lead-up to the 2020 election.” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton is listed as a target of this censorship operation.

“Judicial Watch and I have been censored again and again by government and Big Tech,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said. “That we had to file a federal lawsuit to get basic information about this targeting is another sure sign that CISA has been up to no good.”

Judicial Watch has been in the forefront of uncovering government efforts to censor free speech and suppress opposition.

On November 9, 2023, Judicial Watch reported that CISA records show government involvement in the EIP [Election Integrity Partnership] pressure on Google, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, Reddit and other platforms to censor ‘disinformation.’”

In October 2023, Judicial Watch sued the Department of Justice (DOJ) for records of any payments made by the FBI to Twitter (now known as X). The payments were disclosed in internal Twitter documents (the “Twitter Files”) made available by Elon Musk to journalists.

Also in October, Judicial Watch sued the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) for records concerning censorship of social media users.

In April 2023, Judicial Watch filed two lawsuits against the U.S. Department of Justice and other federal agencies for communications between the agencies and Facebook and Twitter regarding the government’s involvement in content moderation and censorship on the social media platforms.

In a separate lawsuit file in June 2023, Judicial Watch sued DHS for all records of communications tied to the Election Integrity Partnership. Based on representations from the EIP (see here and here), the federal government, social media companies, the EIP, the Center for Internet Security (a non-profit organization funded partly by DHS and the Defense Department) and numerous other leftist groups communicated privately via the Jira software platform developed by Atlassian.

In February 2023, Judicial Watch sued the U.S. Department Homeland Security (DHS) for records showing cooperation between the Cybersecurity and Information Security Agency (CISA) and social media platforms to censor and suppress free speech.

Judicial Watch in January 2023 sued the DOJ for records of communications between the FBI and social media sites regarding foreign influence in elections, as well as the Hunter Biden laptop story.

In September 2022, Judicial Watch sued the Secretary of State of the State of California for having YouTube censor a Judicial Watch election integrity video.

In May 2022, YouTube censored a Judicial Watch video about Biden corruption and election integrity issues in the 2020 election. The video, titled “Impeach? Biden Corruption Threatens National Security,” was falsely determined to be “election misinformation” and removed by YouTube, and Judicial Watch’s YouTube account was suspended for a week. The video featured an interview of Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. Judicial Watch continues to post its video content on its Rumble channel (https://rumble.com/vz7aof-fitton-impeach-biden-corruption-threatens-national-security.html).

In July 2021, Judicial Watch uncovered records from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which revealed that Facebook coordinated closely with the CDC to control the Covid narrative and “misinformation” and that over $3.5 million in free advertising given to the CDC by social media companies.

In May 2021, Judicial Watch revealed documents showing that Iowa state officials pressured social media companies Twitter and Facebook to censor posts about the 2020 election.

In April 2021, Judicial Watch published documents revealing how California state officials pressured social media companies (Twitter, Facebook, Google (YouTube)) to censor posts about the 2020 election.

Judicial Watch has produced a four-part documentary, “Censored and Controlled,” that details the coordinated effort by the FBI and other government agencies and Big Tech to censor and suppress information on topics such as Hunter Biden’s laptop, Covid-19, and election debates.

  • Miss. man on the run after allegedly assaulting, killing, and burning elderly woman

SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. (TCD) — Officials are continuing to search for a man they allege killed an elderly woman, set her body on fire, fled the area, then later robbed a Subway sandwich shop.

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, Dec. 30, Sammy Patrick allegedly went to the victim’s house, sexually assaulted, fatally shot, and burned the victim. The sheriff’s office said he was considered armed and dangerous.

Sheriff Mike Lee identified the victim as 73-year-old Dee Eady. He told WJTV-TV Patrick allegedly shot Eady outside her home, then burned her body “to try to cover his tracks.”

Then, on New Year’s Day, Patrick allegedly stole a truck, drove to a Subway on Highway 61 South, ordered a sandwich, and robbed the shop before driving away. WJTV reports Woodville Police Chief Lemuel Rutledge said Patrick ordered a meatball sub, but when he went to pay, he “took out two handguns and demanded money and the keys to the clerk’s vehicle.”

The cashier reportedly handed him money but would not give him her keys.

Rutledge told the Natchez Democrat, “No one was hurt during the robbery, but the clerk was shaken.”

According to WLBT-TV, One of Eady’s relatives reportedly went to her home and found her deceased after receiving an alert from the security system.

Lee said detectives do not know of any “direct connection” between Eady and Patrick even though they lived near each other. She was a widow and resided by herself.

He explained, “There may have been, if any, some interaction, but there would not be a direct link such as him working for her or knowing her in a personal situation.”

Mississippi Highway Patrol, Louisiana State Police, and other law enforcement agencies are continuing to search for Patrick.

  • 14-year-old accused of killing his parents, severely injuring his younger sister with 'multiple weapons'

FRESNO, Calif. (TCD) — A 14-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly killing his parents and initially claiming they were the victims of a violent intrusion.

On Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 7:40 p.m., a teenager called 911 to report his mother, father, and sister were attacked in a home invasion on the 47000 block of Dunlap Road. The boy reportedly said the suspect fled the scene in a pickup truck.

Fresno County deputies responded to the residence and found the caller’s father, Lue Yang, and mother, Se Vang, deceased inside. Yang and Vang were both 37 years old. The teen’s 11-year-old sister sustained “major injuries” during the attack and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, including surgery. Another child was also home at the time but was not injured.

As detectives began investigating, they reportedly determined there were “inconsistencies with what supposedly took place.” According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the 14-year-old allegedly “fabricated the story of a break-in” and instead was “responsible for using multiple weapons to attack his family members.”

The teen was arrested and booked into a juvenile detention facility on two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

KSEE/KGPE-TV reports the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office filed the case in juvenile court.

Fresno County Sheriff John Zanoni held a press conference Dec. 29 and said detectives are still working to determine a motive for the killings.

He said, “The tragedy of the situation is of such a high magnitude because two children have lost their mother and father due to the actions by their other sibling. Those children will grow up without a mother and a father due to this incident.”

Zanoni said deputies did not have any prior contact with the teen or his family at the Dunlap Road residence.

When asked how the teen obtained the weapons, Zanoni explained, “When individuals live in rural areas of Fresno County like up here in the mountains, those individuals tend to have weapons readily available, whether it be knives, firearms, things like that for self-protection. Many people hunt and things like that, so it’s not uncommon for weapons to be readily available.”

He added, “Unfortunately, in this case, they were in the hands of a 14-year-old who used them in a very violent manner to kill both of his parents.”

  • Colorado Topgolf employee accused of fatally shooting co-worker in parking lot and laughing

THORNTON, Colo. (TCD) — A 26-year-old former Topgolf dishwasher faces charges after allegedly fatally shooting his 22-year-old co-worker in the parking lot outside the popular business last month.

On Dec. 23, 2023, shortly before 1 a.m., the Thornton Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 16000 block of Grant Street and found a 22-year-old victim injured. The victim, who the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office identified as Bryce Holden, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries. Thornton Police said the suspect, Victor Salazar-Guarache, was located in a neighboring area and arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police allege the shooting occurred after a “disturbance between a couple of employees in the parking lot.”

An affidavit obtained by KMGH-TV alleges Salazar-Guarache left work early on Dec. 22 and went into his car. Holden and his manager reportedly finished work and left approximately an hour later. Salazar-Guarache exited his vehicle and allegedly shot Holden multiple times. The manager was unharmed.

A rideshare driver picking up someone at Topgolf reportedly overheard Salazar-Guarache laughing following the shooting.

The district attorney’s office announced Dec. 29 that they charged Salazar-Guarache with first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree attempted murder, and a sentence enhancer of crime of violence. He was scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 2.

Police did not release a possible motive.

In a statement obtained by KMGH, Topgolf said they are “shocked and heartbroken by the incident that occurred in our Thornton venue parking lot, and we grieve for those impacted by this senseless act.”

  • Illinois man is fatally shot during argument allegedly over 'pizza and a bar tab'

WHEATON, Ill. (TCD) — A 49-year-old man was denied pretrial release after he allegedly fatally shot a man at a bar a few days before Christmas because they got into a disagreement over a bar tab and some food.

According to a statement released by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, Dec. 22, at 8:40 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting call at Rosie O’Reilly’s pub and found Dexter Perkins deceased.

Investigators believe Perkins was involved in a dispute with the suspect, Michael Freund, and two other men. The argument reportedly moved outside, where a “brief scuffle ensued” on the porch between Perkins and another man. During the altercation, Freund allegedly retrieved a 9 mm Glock from his jacket and fired warning shots in the air.

Perkins allegedly walked toward one of the other men, and Freund opened fire, hitting him in the face and torso. Freund allegedly hid the gun in the center console of his truck, but law enforcement officers later found it. The gun had been fired 11 times.

Deputies arrested Freund at the pub on a charge of first-degree murder.

The statement said Perkins did not know Freund or the other men prior to the shooting.

State’s Attorney Bob Berlin said the shooting allegedly occurred “over a dispute regarding pizza and a bar tab.”

Rosie O’Reilly’s owner John Dwyer told WBBM-TV Freund and the two other men ordered pizza and had some leftovers.

He said, “So they must have been saying to the bar, ‘If anybody wants some leftovers,’ and somehow, they got into a questionable argument.”

Perkins was reportedly a father of two and was expecting a third.

  • Mom who was wanted for allegedly killing her 2 young children is apprehended in the U.K.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (TCD) — A 35-year-old woman who was wanted on suspicion of killing her two young children and injuring a third was located in the United Kingdom and taken into custody.

The Colorado Springs Police Department announced Kimberlee Singler was arrested Dec. 30 “without incident.” The department declined to release any additional information about her arrest or the case itself.

On Dec. 19 just after midnight, Singler called 911 to report a burglary. Officers arrived and found a 9-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy deceased, as well as an injured 11-year-old girl. Singler and the 11-year-old were taken to the hospital for treatment as homicide detectives took over the case.

Investigators determined the burglary call “was unfounded,” and on Dec. 26, Colorado Springs Police detectives obtained a warrant to arrest Singler on four counts of murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of child abuse, and one count of first-degree assault. Singler, however, was last seen Dec. 23, and her whereabouts were unknown until her arrest.

According to KKTV-TV, Singler and her ex-husband, Kevin Wentz, split up in 2018, and have been in the middle of a fraught custody dispute since then. The divorce was finalized two years later, but they still had yet to reach a custody agreement.

The children were identified as Elianna “Ellie” Wentz and Aden Wentz.

KMGH-TV reports in 2021, Singler requested sole custody because she wanted to move to Florida with the children. Wentz fought it and a judge scheduled a hearing in October 2022, but Singler did not show up. She reportedly failed to appear in court multiple times.

In September 2023, Singler reportedly accused Wentz of pointing a knife at her, so she filed for a temporary protection order against him. A judge granted it, but his attorneys filed to dismiss it. A month later, they went back to court regarding parenting time, and a judge determined Wentz did not pose a threat to the children.

According to KMGH, a judge ordered Singler to let Wentz have custody of the children between Dec. 16 and Dec. 31. Singler and Wentz were reportedly supposed to have a custody exchange on Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. at the Colorado Springs Police Department Stetson Hills Substation, but she never showed up.

Reporter Annabelle Childers posted a statement from Wentz’s attorney, which said he “continues to hope for justice for his children Aden and Ellie. He prays for peace and healing for his surviving daughter.”

  • Louisiana man allegedly killed girlfriend's son while he tried to stop him from hurting his mom

LAKE CHARLES, La. (TCD) — Deputies arrested a 47-year-old man this week on suspicion of killing his girlfriend’s son and their family dog.

On Monday, Jan. 1, at around 4:30 a.m., the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report of a woman at a local hospital suffering from severe injuries. Investigators learned the woman’s boyfriend, Derik Rayborn, allegedly killed her son and a dog at their home off Highway 90 East.

The woman reportedly told deputies she escaped the residence and went to the hospital for medical care.

The sheriff’s office responded to the home and found 26-year-old Eric Bosley and the dog dead at the scene with apparent gunshot wounds. Deputies allege Rayborn also caused the woman’s injuries.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Stitch Guillory told KPLC-TV that during a domestic dispute, the son “tried to defend his mom and that’s how he ended up as a victim.”

Guillory also said the woman’s injuries to her face are “beyond recognition,” adding, “It’s unbelievable that one human being could do this to another human being.”

The sheriff’s office found Rayborn at the hospital as he was trying to locate his girlfriend.

Officials arrested Rayborn and booked him into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on charges of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, domestic abuse causing serious bodily injury, aggravated cruelty to animals, interfering with emergency communication, possession or carrying of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies, and illegal use of a weapon during a crime of violence. His bond was set at $2,375,000.

As of Jan. 2, the woman remains hospitalized with critical injuries.

Prior to the incident, Rayborn was reportedly convicted of five felonies and went to prison.

    The investigation is ongoing.
