  • Philadelphia mom, boyfriend accused of killing her missing 4-year-old son

PHILADELPHIA (TCD) — A 28-year-old woman and her 30-year-old boyfriend were arrested over the weekend on suspicion of killing her 4-year-old son, who remains missing.

According to WCAU-TV, Damari Carter was reported missing to the Philadelphia Police Department on Dec. 30 after family members became concerned because they had not seen the boy since his birthday on Nov. 25. Carter’s mother, Dominique Bailey, reportedly told relatives the child was hit by a car and killed, but detectives from the department’s Special Victims Unit did not find evidence to corroborate that.

Bailey reportedly spoke with investigators Jan. 4 and allegedly shared details about playing a role in her son’s death. Police executed a search warrant at her residence on the 3800 block of Reno Street and arrested Bailey’s boyfriend, Kevin Spencer.

Court records show Bailey and Spencer are being charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal use of communication facility, abuse of a corpse, false reporting, and tampering with evidence.

Metro Philadelphia reports Bailey called her ex, Darryle Carter, and said their son had been killed in the crash. Carter contacted the medical examiner’s offices in the area, but none of them had any records relating to his death. Carter, who lives in Texas, said he last saw his son in April.

He told Metro Philadelphia, “I got nothing but good memories of my son, and it’s sad that he had to go through that. He didn’t deserve that. He was an angel. He was like a mini version of me.”

Investigators are still searching for Carter’s body.

  • Kentucky man arrested on suspicion of killing the mother of his children after custody exchange

LATONIA, Ky. (TCD) — A 38-year-old convicted felon stands accused of killing the mother of his children over the weekend.

According to the Covington Police Department, on Saturday, Jan. 6, shortly after 3 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of West 34th Street in reference to a shooting. Police found 25-year-old Kierra Lane suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and she died at the scene.

Officers allege Mario Payne killed Lane, and they obtained a warrant for his arrest on charges of murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. In a news release, the Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office said the victim and Payne shared two children.

According to newly filed court records obtained by WXIX-TV, before Lane’s death, she exchanged custody of her kids with their father at another location, and then Payne followed Lane home to grab clothes for their kids so they could sleep at his home.

Multiple witnesses reportedly saw Payne and Lane argue on Lane’s front porch. Payne allegedly grabbed a handgun from his car and then shot Lane multiple times as she tried to get back inside her house. According to WXIX, Payne left his kids at the scene and fled.

A woman who also shares a child with Payne reportedly told police he had called her and “stated something to the effect of ‘I really f—ed up!’” However, WXIX reports Payne didn’t share any further details with the female witness.

Police located Payne in Louisville on Monday, Jan. 8, at around 11:15 a.m., and took him into custody.

Prior to the alleged shooting, WXIX reports Payne had been convicted of trafficking in a controlled substance, trafficking in marijuana, and possession of a controlled substance.

  • Headless woman drained of blood and dumped in California vineyard in 2011 is identified

ARVIN, Calif. (TCD) — Investigators recently identified a female homicide victim whose headless and thumbless body was found in a vineyard nearly 13 years ago.

On March 29, 2011, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office located a dead woman at Grape Vineyard on Sebastian Road, but attempts to identify the victim through missing persons records and fingerprints were unsuccessful. Her cause of death was undetermined, but the medical examiner ruled her death a homicide. She was later buried as a Jane Doe at Union Cemetery.

According to the DNA Doe Project, the woman’s head and thumbs were missing, and her body had been drained of blood. Her remains were partially decomposed as well.

Sheriff’s spokesman Ray Pruitt told KGET-TV, “I’ve seen some pretty gruesome crime scenes and this was just… it was creepy.”

Officials reportedly found the body in a position that appeared to have been posed. Pruitt also said it “looked like somebody had taken a mannequin, removed the head of the mannequin, and posed it on the dirt road.”

In 2020, the Kern County Medical Examiner’s Office contacted the DNA Doe Project to assist with the case, and they used genetic genealogy to help identify the woman. Investigators found DNA matches connecting Jane Doe to distant cousins, and the DNA Doe Project built a family tree.

According to the sheriff’s office, the DNA Doe Project identified two potential family members on the East Coast in July 2023, and they provided DNA samples for comparison. As a result, investigators positively identified Jane Doe as 64-year-old Ada Beth Kaplan.

As part of a follow-up investigation, sheriff’s office detectives learned family members didn’t file a missing person report for Kaplan. Officials have not yet named any suspects, and the location of her death remains unknown.

  • Houston man arrested for allegedly kidnapping woman and holding her captive in garage for 5 years

HOUSTON (TCD) — A 52-year-old man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly kidnapping a woman and keeping her locked in his home for years.

Houston Police Department Commander Michael Collins said in a news briefing aired by KRIV-TV on Thursday, Jan. 4, that investigators obtained a warrant in April to arrest Lee Carter on a charge of aggravated kidnapping. Carter was found Wednesday, Jan. 3, at a motel, but police searched his home on Perry Street because they were concerned about someone possibly being held captive inside.

Collins said investigators approached the home and knocked on the door, but no one responded. However, they heard a loud television and a dog barking inside. He said accusations in the warrant were “serious,” so there were “exigent circumstances to search the premises.” Some of the doors were reportedly open, including one that “looked like it had sustained some prior damage.”

Investigators noticed an attached garage with a deadbolt on the outside, so the room could only be locked or unlocked from the exterior.

Collins said no one else was in the home when investigators went inside except for the dog. Officials took custody of the dog, who was reportedly in good condition. The purported victim was not at the home, but Collins said investigators are following up on leads to locate her.

According to Carter’s probable cause affidavit, on April 7, a Houston Police officer responded to Carter’s home after receiving a call about a kidnapping in progress and found the victim inside. The victim reportedly said she met Carter “four or five years ago” when she was panhandling on the street and he pulled over to give her a dollar. He drove off, then allegedly returned and asked if she needed help because she was pregnant. She then got in his car “against her better judgment,” and he took them back to his house.

The affidavit alleges Carter kept her locked in the garage, forced her to do drugs, and sexually assaulted her. She reportedly tried to escape several times, but Carter “ran after her, grabbed her, and returned her to the garage.”

Carter allegedly gave her chips and other snacks, but rarely a full meal. He also allegedly prevented her from showering.

He reportedly let her use his laptop occasionally, and on April 7, she texted police using a computer app and allegedly said she was being held captive.

The police and fire departments had previously responded to Carter’s home. One time, the victim reportedly managed to escape by breaking a garage window and crawling out of it. However, she had to go to the hospital, and Carter ended up picking her up. He then boarded up the windows in the garage.

According to the affidavit, the victim last saw Carter one day before she texted police. She said she did not want to go back to the residence and was in “imminent fear” of Carter. The victim requested an emergency protection order against Carter.

Investigators found the single-car garage had been altered so that there was no longer a door for a car to enter and exit. They also discovered a “makeshift toilet that did not flush,” a mattress covered in vomit, a television, chips, Twinkies, folded shirts, and diapers.

The affidavit said the victim weighed about 70 pounds at the time of her rescue in April, had a “pungent stench” coming from her body, and “crusty” hair.

KHOU-TV reports Carter appeared in court Monday, Jan. 8, and pleaded not guilty. He allegedly said the victim is his son’s mother. Carter was released from jail after posting bond and will remain under house arrest with an ankle monitor.

It was not immediately clear what happened to the child the victim was pregnant with during her alleged captivity.

  • N.C. man accused of trying to hire someone to kill the man responsible for his mother's death

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (TCD) — A member of the U.S. National Guard allegedly tried to hire a hit man to avenge his mother’s 2016 car crash death.

In March 2016, Donald Caulder got into a collision near Capital Boulevard and U.S. 1 that killed Rhett Barlow’s mother, Michelle Barlow, the Wake Forest Police Department said in a news release. Caulder was driving a dump truck, failed to slow down, and struck the back of Barlow’s vehicle, killing the high school English teacher, according to WTVD-TV.

Caulder was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and pleaded guilty around 10 months later. WTVD reports a judge gave him a suspended sentence and 12 months of probation.

Rhett Barlow allegedly tried to hire a hit man to kill Caulder on Nov. 28, 2023, and bought an AR-style rifle the same day. According to WTVD, Barlow allegedly requested a transfer to an Army base closer to Caulder.

Police, with the help of the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division, arrested Barlow on a charge of solicitation for murder on Saturday, Jan. 6. He was booked into the Wake County Detention Center and remains held on $1 million bond.

At the time of his arrest, Barlow was at Fort Liberty for training with the National Guard.

  • Family of Ashli Babbitt Files $30 Million Wrongful Death Action

    From Jonathan Turley:

The long-awaited tort action from the family of Ashli Babbitt has now been filed in Southern California. Babbitt was shot and killed on Jan. 6th and her family is seeking $30 million in a wrongful death action. Equally important, the lawsuit could force additional answers to why Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd shot and killed the unarmed protester as she attempted to climb through a window near the House Chamber. I have previously raised concerns over the shooting as conflicting with governing standards on the use of lethal force. I also noted contradictions in Byrd’s own statements and the government’s conclusion that this was a justified killing. The complaint below adds some troubling facts to these prior concerns.

The family is being represented by Judicial Watch.

  • Indiana mom sentenced for role in torture and abuse death of her young son

LAPORTE, Ind. (TCD) — A judge sentenced a 27-year-old mother to over four decades in prison for playing a role in her 4-year-old son’s torture and abuse-related death.

The Times of Northwest Indiana reports Mary Yoder was ordered to spend 42 years behind bars after she pleaded guilty over the summer to neglect of a dependent resulting in death for the death of her son, Judah Morgan, and domestic battery of a different child in the home.

LaPorte County Prosecutor Sean Fagan reportedly said at the sentencing hearing on Jan. 5 that Yoder “was given the great gift” of as the mother of a “young, vivacious Judah. And she squandered it.”  Judah Morgan’s father, Alan Morgan, was sentenced to 70 years in prison in November 2022 following his guilty plea of first-degree murder and battery on a child.

On Oct. 11, 2021, at 2:45 a.m., LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Yoder and Morgan’s home after receiving a call about an unconscious child. When they arrived, they found Judah Morgan unresponsive. He was declared dead at the scene.

According to WTHR-TV, Yoder’s home was covered in trash and fecal matter. She and Alan Morgan reportedly kept Judah Morgan in the basement for hours or days at a time and tied his hands and ankles with duct tape because he was not potty trained.

The couple repeatedly abused Judah and beat him until he died.

Morgan’s cousin raised him as her foster child, but he was put back in his parents’ custody six months before he was killed, according to the Times of Northwest Indiana.

  • IRS Criminal Investigators Subjected to Woke Training Featuring Black Trans Prof., Dalai Lama

Federal agents charged with investigating money laundering, public corruption, counterterrorism, and narcotics trafficking at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) were pulled from their critical duties to endure woke training that directs them to operate in a culturally inclusive environment and speak up for multiple social identities. The drills focused on equity, diversity, inclusion and justice and instructed agents from the specialized IRS Criminal Investigation (IRSCI) unit to question how much they know about different cultural norms and mores and challenged them with the following inquiries: “Are you prepared adequately to accommodate different cultural expectations and practices?” and “Can you deliver cultural inclusion behaviorally?” The course’s introduction, titled “Cultural Inclusion is About Justice,” was provided by a black transgender professor who asserts in an academic article that the high impact of “whiteness” oppresses trans college students.

Judicial Watch obtained and reviewed material from the controversial special training presented to IRSCI agents as part of mandatory continuing professional education for all staff. A source connected to the Washington D.C. field office provided slides from the specific presentation in that division, which has dozens of agents that investigate crimes throughout the capitol area, including Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Federal agents—as well as the special agent in charge of the D.C. office—working on high-profile probes involving bribery, embezzlement, illegal kickbacks and dismantling the country’s major drug and money laundering organizations were reluctant to be yanked from their important work to participate in the woke training. “They want us to consider people’s race,” said a veteran investigator whose identity cannot be disclosed. “Criminals don’t discriminate. White collar criminals are mostly what IRSCI goes after.” And they are a diverse bunch, according to government sources interviewed by Judicial Watch.

Nevertheless, in this heated environment of political correctness many government agencies are implementing official woke initiatives under a Biden executive order to advance racial equity and support for underserved communities through the federal government. That includes subjecting government workers to similar equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice training as well as establishing special programs to help the targeted audience. The Department of Justice (DOJ) has formulated a strategy to “advance equity for marginalized and underserved communities” that, among other things, directs federal prosecutors to ignore maximum sentencing under the law to “avoid unwarranted disparities.” The Department of Labor has dedicated $260 million to promote “equitable access” to government unemployment benefits by addressing disparities in the administration and delivery of money by race ethnicity and language proficiency. The Treasury Department named its first ever racial equity chief, a veteran La Raza official who spent a decade at the nation’s most influential open borders group. The list goes on and on.

The IRSCI training is part of that expansive woke agenda. Criminal investigators at the nation’s tax agency were taught about cross-cultural competence in a section that questioned their cultural behaviors, values, biases, preconceived notions, and personal limitations. “Do you understand the worldview of your culturally different customers/colleagues without negative judgements?” one slide asks. “Can you develop relevant and sensitive intervention strategies and skills with your culturally different customers/colleagues?” Keep in mind these are federal law enforcement agents investigating the perpetrators of serious crimes, not public relations, or human resources representatives. It is difficult to understand how they benefit from this type of training, which also featured a “cultural perceptions” discussion that covered how Mexicans and Taiwanese describe people in the U.S. Answers include rushed, reserved, hard-headed, unemotional, independent, and self-indulgent.

A slide focusing on projection bias includes a quote from the Dalai Lama, the infamous Buddhist monk and Tibetan spiritual leader who recently ignited global outrage after kissing a child on the lips at an event in northern India then asking the boy to suck his tongue. Adjacent to the Dalai Lama’s banner is a deep quote from a diversity, equity and inclusion strategist who claims to be an expert on cultural, racial, religious, gender, generational and sexual orientation. Her message to IRS criminal investigators is “I am not culturally different from you. I am culturally different like you.” Cultural exclusions are discussed in a slide featuring a photo of a black woman who claims wearing her hair naturally was the only thing that defined her in the office and another black woman who refrains from conversations in the office about famous black people to avoid a negative affiliation. A Latina woman says that she tries “not to be regularly seen with other Latinx employees on staff” to avoid a negative association.

  • Barack Obama Sounds the Alarms About the Struggling Biden Campaign

Barack Obama, who has remained a quiet force behind the scenes in the Biden administration, has spoken out quite pointedly about the danger of the current president losing his re-election campaign to former president Donald Trump.

The concerning development for the Biden campaign was noted by NBC.

    !function(r,u,m,b,l,e){r._Rumble=b,r[b]||(r[b]=function(){(r[b]._=r[b]._||[]).push(arguments);if(r[b]._.length==1){l=u.createElement(m),e=u.getElementsByTagName(m)[0],l.async=1,l.src=”https://rumble.com/embedJS/u4870v”+(arguments[1].video?’.’+arguments[1].video:”)+”/?url=”+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+”&args=”+encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify([].slice.apply(arguments))),e.parentNode.insertBefore(l,e)}})}(window, document, “script”, “Rumble”);

    Rumble(“play”, {“video”:”v437miu”,”div”:”rumble_v437miu”});

The Washington Post, a publication known for signaling in the Democratic Party, had recently aired the Obama camp’s alleged frustrations with the Biden campaign, which portends ill for the current president’s prospects.

Former president Barack Obama has raised questions about the structure of President Biden’s reelection campaign, discussing the matter directly with Biden and telling the president’s aides and allies the campaign needs to be empowered to make decisions without clearing them with the White House, according to three people familiar with the conversations.

Obama grew “animated” in discussing the 2024 election and former president Donald Trump’s potential return to power, one of the people said, and has suggested to Biden’s advisers that the campaign needs more top-level decision-makers at its headquarters in Wilmington, Del. — or it must empower the people already in place. Obama has not recommended specific individuals, but he has mentioned David Plouffe, who managed Obama’s 2008 race, as the type of senior strategist needed at the Biden campaign.

Plouffe is currently a board member of the Obama Foundation, and served as White House Senior Advisor to President Obama. The Washington Post then provided an overview of the forum where Obama reportedly made his critical remarks.

Obama’s conversation with Biden on the subject took place during a private lunch at the White House in recent months, one of the people said, a meeting that has not been previously reported. Biden, who has long used Obama as a sounding board, invited his former boss to lunch, and the two discussed a range of topics including the 2024 election.

During the lunch, Obama noted the success of his reelection campaign structure in 2012, when some of his top presidential aides, including David Axelrod and Jim Messina, left the White House to take charge of the reelection operation in Chicago. That is a sharp contrast from Biden’s approach of leaving his closest aides at the White House even though they are involved in all the key decisions made by the campaign.

Obama also recommended that Biden seek counsel from Obama’s own former campaign aides, which Biden officials say they have done, the people said.

It is certainly interesting optics for a former president who has remained conspicuously muted during the first three years of the Biden administration to suddenly speak up so forcefully about his former vice president’s flagging re-election odds.

Will Barack Obama once again play kingmaker in the Democratic Party to thwart a vaunted presidential rival? The political winds definitely are blowing in the direction — and they threaten to take the physically and mentally deteriorating Joe Biden along with them.
