Hopefully, it’s a very limited issue
Cheating seems like it’ll be inevitable in any game or sport that’s competitive though that doesn’t mean we should let it fly and not call it out.
Some top-ranked players in Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising are currently being accused of cheating to try and secure special limited items right before the end of the season.
Another Granblue player and tournament organizer pointed out two accounts in particular, who appear to have climbed to the top of the ranked ladder through some illegitimate methods.
These accounts seem to be using each other to constantly boost their ranked points back and forth to reach higher and higher on the leaderboard.
It doesn’t appear whoever is behind this is trying to hide that pretty much at all either, as their replays show straight perfect rounds where one Katalina doesn’t press any buttons at all.
So why are they allegedly jumping through all of these hoops?
GBVSR introduced a new Grand Master Rank recently which gives a badge to everyone who’s made it at the end of the season. That season ends tomorrow, so we’re seeing people sneak into GM by farming their own accounts being afk in ranked. Something has to be done about this. #GBVSR pic.twitter.com/cwSz0Xyjbe

Granblue’s big update last month added a new Grand Master rank to the game where the top players battle it out to see who can score the most Master Points in a season similarly to Street Fighter 6’s Master Rate system.
The top 10 players for each character with the highest points will be gifted exclusive Grand Master badges and trophies to display.
And that’s pretty much it.
These alleged boosters are seemingly attempting to make a last-minute push to secure one of these spots before the season ends tomorrow morning, September 30, for accolades they didn’t even really earn.
This had us worried the issue may be even more widespread across Master Ranks, however, that doesn’t look to be the case from what we’ve seen so far.
While we can’t check all of the hundreds of users up for top contention, the couple dozen we looked at across different characters didn’t display suspicious behaviors that we came across.
But if someone figured out how to game the system, there are more than likely others attempting to do the same as well.
You can manually report players for suspected cheating by looking at their user profiles in Granblue though if this is more than just a limited few cases, Cygames may need to implement some new checks to address boosting.
A Street Fighter 6 competitor recently faced accusations of cheating during an actual Capcom Pro Tour event as well with that attempt having even more at stake with a potential ticket to Capcom Cup on the line.
In this evolving digital age, it’s going to be interesting to see how fighting game developers try and handle cheaters, especially when it comes to official tournaments and promotions.
