The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo State, has concluded a two-day intensive screening process to select the institution’s next substantive Rector.
The exercise was conducted by the selection board and Governing Council of the polytechnic.
Following the appointment of Dr Uzoma Friday Ibeaja as acting Rector in March, 2024 by the Federal Government, a rigorous screening process was initiated to select a suitable candidate for the permanent position.
A total of eight shortlisted candidates, including the acting Rector, underwent the screening, which was overseen by a team of resource personnel led by Prof. Okorie Kalu Osonwa, former Rector Abia State Polytechnic Aba in line with extant laws from NBTE.
At the end of the comprehensive evaluation, three candidates emerged as the top contenders for the Rector’s position: Dr. Basilia Igbokwe (first position), Dr. Onyemenonu C.C (second position), and Dr. Okafo Okoreaffia (third position)
Their names will now be forwarded to the Presidency for the final selection of the most qualified individual.
Expressing satisfaction with the process, the institution’s council chairman, Hon. Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, commended the Registry and resource personnel for their professionalism and commitment to transparency.
He emphasised the government’s dedication to appointing competent leaders for educational institutions to ensure the overall well-being and academic growth of students.
Ikoh assured the eventual Rector of the council’s and government’s full support in driving the institution forward.
