While at Evothis year, Smug took advantage of the fact that so many top players and figures in the Street Fighter community were all in attendance and asked a ton of them who they’re current top 5 characters in the game are.
Falcons|MenaRD, NASR|AngryBird, Mouz|EndingWalker, BST|Fuudo, Bandits|Caba, RB|Gachikun, SR|NuckleDu, Falcons|NL, FAV|Sako, NIP|Phenom, TM|NoahTheProdigy, Haitani, and Ryan Hart are only some of the names that gave responses, and three particular characters came up more than anyone else.
Though there were some definite runners up, Cammy, Guile, and Rashid were easily the most common fighters to be placed in the top 5. Not only were these characters consistently listed, they were often the first brought up perhaps indicating players had the most confidence in them as top tiers.
The somewhat controversial Zangief was also extremely prominent, as was Ken. Glass canon Akuma was also brought up quite a lot, perhaps followed by the likes of M. Bison, Ed, and (surprisingly?) Dee Jay.
A.K.I.’s name was tossed out a handful of times, as was Juri’s. Chun-Li and Luke were mentioned, but from this sample of 20 or so notable community figures it feels like there’s a fairly strong consensus that Rashid, Cammy, Ken, Zangief, Guile, Akuma, M. Bison, and Ed are probably the top 8 right now.
