Tokido says we need to accept the Perfect Parry meta in Street Fighter 6; talks Akuma, top tiers, and more

Over at Red Bull Kumite in New York this past week, the congregation of pro level talent saw a lot of the best the fighting game community has to offer all in the same room for a few days. This meeting of the minds lead to top notch content creator and pro player Broski sitting down to have a chat with none other than Rohto|Tokido.

In this interview, Broski and Tokido discuss several hot button topics regarding Street Fighter 6, and Tokido’s got some great insight on everything. He notes that the current Perfect Parry meta is likely something we just need to accept, shares his excitement for upcoming DLC character Akuma, and even reveals who he thinks are the two best characters in Street Fighter 6 right now.

Perfect Parry has been a controversial point of discussion in Street Fighter 6 for several months now. What started out as a technique that was considered almost useless has now become something that some players feel is too easy to use with too little risk and desperately needs changing.

Tokido weighed in on this hot topic, and his opinion might not make everyone the happiest. Tokido feels that we might just need to accept the current meta surrounding Perfect Parry because if we lost the mechanic, the game itself would end up broken.

“Without Perfect Parry, this game is gonna be broken,” Tokido started. “So, maybe we have to accept the Perfect Parry mind game.”

He goes on to say that he would like to see changes made to Drive Rush, however. Essentially, Tokido wants to be able to punish raw ones easier and more consistently.

Naturally, with Akuma coming to Street Fighter 6 the fans are anxious to see what Tokido can do with him. Tokido’s name is almost synonymous with Akuma by this point, and he is often revered as one of, if not, the best Akuma player ever.

Tokido shares his thoughts on the recent Akuma teaser trailer, and notes that he will be playing him when he releases in the Spring. There’s more about the demon here from Tokido, so be sure to check out Broski’s full video interview below.

During a recent episode of Jon and Kate +8 On Block we also discussed how impactful parries and perfect parries will be for the future of Street Fighter 6. This video also includes numerous examples of high level players implementing this tactic against top competitors.
