Rhoto|Tokido versus Ibushigin|Kakeru at Evo 2023 ended up being one of the craziest sets we’ve seen so far for Street Fighter 6. This isn’t intended to be any sort of slight towards Tokido, but his win against Kakeru was actually a total fluke due to how JP’s Departure spike weirdly whiffed at a crucial moment.
Since then, we haven’t really had the chance to see these two face off at another major tournament. However, it seems that the two recently ran into one another during their online sessions.
As expected, Tokido was using Ken while Kakeru played as JP. Of course, Ken and JP (as well as Luke) are a few of the main contenders for best character in the game right now. Considering that they’re being played by some of the world’s best players, this is sure to be an interesting match up.
At the time of their encounter, Tokido was ranked as the 30th best player on the leaderboards while Kakeru was ranked at 38th. Though Tokido is higher ranked than Kakeru and outperformed him at Evo 2023, Kakeru’s 1st place victory at Gamers8 2023 is probably the most prestigious victory either player has achieved throughout Street Fighter 6 thus far.
Needless to say, these two players are actually fairly evenly matched during the set. The ending ends up being a real nail biter. It honestly could’ve gone either way.
