Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, has been enjoying support from across the country, as we edge ever more closer to next year’s presidential election.
In another plus for his presidential ambition, the leader of pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, has once again, reiterate his support for Obi, while distancing himself from Bola Tinubu whom he said has already made it clear, he’ll continue the agenda of the current government if voted to power.
Adebanjo expressed confidence in Obi’s competence, saying unlike Tinubu, Obi will not disappoint Nigerians.
“Ahmed Tinubu will only give continuity to Buhari’s incompetence. We know Peter Obi very well, that is why we endorse him. He will not disappoint Nigerians, let us put our tribal difference apart and vote right leaders,” Adebanjo wrote in a tweet.
The group had earlier declared support for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Obi, an Igbo man and former governor of Anambra State, on the basis that it is the turn of the South-east geopolitical zone of the country.
“Yes, we have endorsed Peter Obi. My reason for supporting him is because, based on equity and justice, the presidency should go to the South-East,” Mr Adebanjo had said some weeks back.
Adebanjo is not particularly in good terms with the presidential candidate of the APC, particularly for his roles in Buhari’s victories in the last two presidential elections.
Adebanjo who couldn’t hide his anger against Tinubu whom he accused of using his influential power to sell out the Yoruba race for his personal benefit, previously said Tinubu does not deserve the presidency, and shuts down any attempt at trying to convince him to support the APC leader.
“Don’t come and campaign to me about Tinubu. You cannot change my mind on that,” was his response when asked during an interview with New Telegraph, whether Tinubu is still relevant many years after leaving office as Governor of Lagos state, and whether he is the most qualified for the office of the president from the South West.
He said Tinubu’s betrayal of the Southwest is a grave offense which can only be forgiven if Tinubu repents.
“People have asked me if I have forgiven him, how can we be talking of that, when he is not doing the right thing? I have been condemning him for being in alliance with Buhari. He is the cause of all the problems we have in this country. If he did not have an alliance with Buhari, we will not be in this situtation.”
“I told him that he is not doing the right thing. When I criticise him, it’s not because I hate him. The Bible says God does not want a sinner to die, but to repent. I will continue to criticise him until he does the right thing,” the Afenifere leader added.
