President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as the Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for an initial four-year term.
The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.
He said Oloriegbe’s appointment took effect on March 11.
A seasoned medical professional and former lawmaker, Oloriegbe represented the Kwara Central Senatorial District in the 9th Senate, where he served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023.
He also chaired the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health, playing a pivotal role in shaping health policies in Nigeria.
Oloriegbe holds a Master’s in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), the Nigeria Venereal Disease Association, the Guild of Medical Directors of Nigeria, the International AIDS Society (IAS), and the Africa Health Leadership and Management Network.
