President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr Kayode Opeifa as the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation.
Opeifa is a renowned transportation expert and former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation.
According to a statement seen by THE WHISTLER, the new appointee was given the role based on his expertise in transportation.
The government said Opeifa has built a distinguished career marked by impactful reforms.
It said as a Lagos commissioner, Opeifa introduced policies that significantly improved public transport and traffic management in Lagos.
According to the statement, the NRC boss helped ease congestion and laid a strong foundation for Lagos State’s rapid urban development.
Opeifa’s appointment to lead the modernisation of Nigeria’s railway network marks a significant step toward improving the country’s transportation infrastructure, according to FG.
According to the FG, with his extensive experience in transportation planning and his previous role as Transport Secretary for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), he is well-positioned to drive essential reforms that will enhance mobility, support trade, and contribute to national development.
The government said the move comes at a critical time as Nigeria seeks to bolster its economic growth through improved transportation systems.
It noted that Opeifa’s proven track record in addressing transportation challenges has earned him widespread praise.
