Tier lists have become the common way for fighting game players to put out their thoughts on a roster’s or particular character’s strengths / weaknesses, but as a pretty subjective practice, sometimes you just have the wrong read.
Fighting game content creator Jmcrofts recently released an interesting new video detailing the various times the FGC was incorrect about characters being too strong or too weak until proven otherwise.
The first character Jmcrofts delves into is also arguably the most infamous in semi-recent history, considering many top players thought that Elena wouldn’t make much of an impact on Ultra Street Fighter 4 after her nerfs, but we all probably remember how she turned out…
Dragon Ball FighterZ is next up on the list where you may remember Goku Black being labeled as a top tier threat back in 2018, and the longtime player breaks down why that never really came to fruition.
Funnily enough, Jmcrofts brings up one of our old Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 articles written by PG|Justin Wong because he placed Chun-Li in C+ tier because she doesn’t do much damage and is hard to control.
All of that may technically be true, but RyanLV proved she’s really good at running away and building meter and so much so that he was able to win Evo with Chun as an important part of the team.
You can check out Jmcrofts’ full video below where he delves more into what the playerbase got wrong about the characters mentioned above as well as more Marvel and Guilty Gear picks.
