Throwback @ Teachers' Day: Read What former students said about their teachers

Efio-Ita Nyok|7 October 2016

Wednesday, 5 October was designated as Teachers Day in the country. The day was marked by teachers in Cross River State. I decided to reproduce what some former students said about their former teachers.

If you're wondering why I didn't make a post wishing those that tutored me during my days in school.

Well, its because I felt they really deserve much more.I dont know about anyone else but  Something keeps telling me that it would have been better to stop by at their offices, drop those precious gifts; whether mega, or moderate  just to let them know I sincerely appreciate their efforts.but you know how it is, with the technicality in Baba's economic situation of the country.

However, I will still blow kisses  to the likes of  Dr. Judith Otu, Dr. Esther Archibong, Associate Prof Ojua Takim, Dr. Etobe,Dr. Ayuk,Prof Ottong. Not to worry, God will use us to crown your efforts someday and hopefully,It wont be long. for impacting me, am more than  grateful. Thanks a trillion times and please do more!!.

Happy Teachers Day To My Beloved Parents!

My maverick father, Chief Augustine Abi, you were not just a teacher, you were a teacher with a difference. A firebrand teacher, a first class teacher. A renown educationists, an orator who through out his life time worked towards shaping mankind.

My Chief, as an educationists, you worked towards the advancement of education in Cross River State, Nigeria and West Africa. You made sure that Education in Nigeria was improved. No wonder you rose up to becoming State President ANCOPSS Cross River State, and Second National Vice President ANCOPSS , Nigeria and a Council member in WAEC.

As a school administrator of over 27 years, you never compromised. You stood for Justice and worked for the greater good of your people. Evident is an award conferred on you by former Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State in 2007 as Principal Emeritus of Nigeria (PEN) .

Chief Abi, as the world celebrates world teachers day, I celebrate you. Because you were not just a refined material but a scholar and an intelligentsia.

Happy World Teachers Day To Chief & Mrs Augustine Abi

The worst leaders I've seen and met are ex teachers and lecturers.

The irony of the whole situation is, when you hear them discussing about national issues during lectures, you immediately think they are all saints and will make better leaders. My oh My if you try give them Power, wahali you go hear am.

Happy Teachers Day sha.

*Teachers are to be celebrated in this country but that is not the case in both Cross River and Nigeria. Salaries are owed serving teachers and former teachers who are now retired and pensioners. We often hear the phrase: 'A teacher's reward is in heaven', what a lame remark!

Teachers are supposed to be the highest paid in this country. They are supposed to be recipients of National Awards. But, we celebrate criminals with our most  cherished awards. We place a high premium on materialism —money, wealth, properties, cars, plush houses etc, when we are supposed to consider unassailable values like love, togetherness, courage, determination, virtues, selflessness, etc. These are the things these teachers painstakingly incorporate into us their students.

There is no society without these values and there are no such values without these teachers.
