Manchester United are desperate to rebuild their squad, as a run of three straight losses have knocked the club out of the Carabao Cup and dropped them to 14th in the Premier League.

Whilst some area’s of United’s game appear to be improving, it’s clear that the current squad aren’t quite set up for Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system.

Firstly, there is now-one to play on the left flank in the dynamic way Amorim is looking for. With Luke Shaw’s consistent time on the side-line through injury and Tyrell Malacia not looking up to scratch, Amorim has been reliant on right-back Diogo Dalot to cover.

Secondly, the club are lacking a prolific striker, with Amorim needing a clinical finisher up top to convert the chances the midfield and wings are creating.

Finally, with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen seemingly off the pace, and Mason Mount consistently injured, another midfielder is a must come the summer.

However, United may have struck gold with three of their long-term targets eligible to agree to free transfer in the coming days.

Manchester United have the opportunity to sign three of their long-term targets for free

With the January transfer window on our doorstep, three of United’s long-term targets are yet to extend their contracts past the summer.

As such, the trio are eligible to sign pre-contract agreements next month, lining up their next club for when their current contract ends.

To solve United’s left-back problem, the club have been eyeing up Alphonso Davies for some time. The Bayern Munich star has been stalling agreements for a new contract, with his agent going as far to say they are unhappy with how the German giants have conducted negotiations.

Davies is now considering a move to Old Trafford, amid interest from United and Real Madrid, however United appear to have the advantage from a salary standpoint.

Next we have another Canadian, Jonathan David. The LOSC Lille striker is certainly in form, with 17 goals and five assists in 26 games this season.

The striker’s contributions have placed Lille in eighth in the Champions League, and four in Ligue 1, only three points between second and third place Marseille and Monaco.

Finally is another Lille star and former Red Devil, Angel Gomes.

Ruben Amorim has reportedly urged the United recruitment team to prioritise the re-signing of Gomes, versatile midfielder who has come into his own for the French club.

With his ability to play in any role in the centre of the pitch, having taken on attacking and defensive midfielder roles for Lille, the 24-year-old could be an incredible asset to replace Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
