The Commander of the Hunter’s/Forest Guard Association, Mr. Emma Onyema, has shed light on the arrest of three brothers who were caught vandalizing an oil pipeline at Umungasi Ohuhu, Abia State.
Speaking to THE WHISTLER on Sunday, Mr. Onyema confirmed that the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in the early hours of Sunday, around 2:00 am, following credible intelligence received by his team.
The suspects, identified as Anowii Onyemauchechukwu, Anowii Chidiebere, and Anowii Odinakachi, hail from Umuezeala in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State but have resided at Ulonna Farm Settlement in Umuahia North Local Government Area for most of their lives.
“We acted immediately upon receiving credible information about their activities. When we apprehended them, the villagers were about to lynch them, but I stepped in and stopped it.
“It was necessary to keep them alive for proper investigation and to uncover others who might be involved in this criminal act,” Mr. Onyema stated
The suspects are currently in the custody of the NSCDC, and investigations are ongoing to identify other collaborators in the pipeline vandalism.
Mr. Onyema reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the area, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in combating such crimes.
“This is a warning to others involved in similar activities. We will not relent in protecting our environment and national assets,” the Commander added.
