Tekken 8 has an amazing feature that rolled over from its predecessor and it makes for some truly hype and hilarious moments. Of course, I’m talking about the game’s slow down mechanic, which sees the action slow to a crawl when a potential round-winning hit is about to land — though a hit doesn’t always land in these scenarios.
With all of that being said, sometimes the slow-mo comes into play and highlights a funny interaction that has no real conclusion, and this is the basis for the clip we have for you today. In it, we see prominent Tekken commentator and player Rip taking on an opponent online, and not only is the round just an absolute roller coaster of emotions, but it has what might be the best slow-mo moment we’ve seen yet.
During one of his recent live streams, Rip found himself fighting the Law mirror match. In true online fighting game fashion — and something we’ve all experienced before — Rip got tagged by his opponent and thought the round was over, swiftly accepting his loss and doing so by saying, “this game sucks!”
Instead of losing the round, though, Rip survived the attack, and he quickly snapped back into the fight when realizing he was still alive. The opponent’s Law came running in for a low attack, and Rip jumped away, which triggered the slow down mechanic.
Over the course of the next seven real life seconds, we see both Laws disappear off screen without ever colliding, and it gets to a point where the game lingers on an empty screen with no fighters in sight as the slow down is still in effect. What makes this even funnier is that Rip sits there flabbergasted, wondering where the fighters went, and even looks off screen toward the upper left to try and find them.
When the match does actually resume, we see that Rip’s Law actually countered the running low attack and stopped it in its tracks. With both players at just a sliver of health left, they take a quick breather and then both perform a flip kick at the exact same time triggering yet another slow-mo clash.
We’ll let you watch the footage below to see how it ends, but just know there is an F-bomb in this clip.
