No one is ever really gone…
Charlie Nash has had a difficult time staying alive in the Street Fighter franchise. We got word that he was killed off in the original release of Street Fighter 2 back in 1991, where in Guile’s arcade ending, M. Bison talks about murdering Nash in Cambodia.
We got to officially see this happen in Street Fighter Alpha 2’s ending for Nash, where as he defeats M. Bison, a helicopter comes up behind him and shoots Nash in the back and he plummets down a waterfall.
Fast forward to the 2016 release of Street Fighter 5, and this time Nash is resurrected by Gill, but later dies in the fight to stop M. Bison once more, sacrificing himself so that the rest of Team Good Guys can finish off the villain and live to fight another day.
But as it turns out, Nash’s role in Street Fighter may not be at an end, despite having died twice before, according to Street Fighter 6’s Director, Takayuki Nakayama.
In the same thread where he confirmed that Gen was still alive, Nakayama was asked about Charlie Nash, and if fans should have hope that he could come back in the future.
“Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time,” replied Nakayama, quoting Paulo Coelho, who is a Brazilian lyricist and novelist, about whether fans should have hope that Nash could return once more.
This quote not only states that it’s a possibility that Nash could once again come back from the dead, but that surely we will see a third appearance from Charlie where he’s alive and well in the timeline, which would be a most spectacular turn of events.
What side effects Nash may undergo from having died twice, plus being resurrected by Gill and potentially or at least partially under the control of The Illuminati, remains to be seen.
Nash is a big fan favorite for many players, and was one of the most popular characters when Street Fighter 5 was first released in the competitive tournament scene.
Nakayama’s quote here makes it seem like a return is a given, but if he turns up as a playable character, or just a person you can encounter in World Tour or other modes in Street Fighter 6 remains to be seen.
If you want to go further, you can read how Kage (Evil Ryu) disappeared and can no longer exist, but Nakayama says you never know what will happen.
