In recent times, we’ve seen a couple of very creative and effective counters to Rashid’s level 2 super in Street Fighter 6. We thought we might have had a three-peat on our hands with this clip, but unfortunately, things just didn’t quite work out how they were intended to.
Some quick match footage from yoofierce on Twitter started off as something Kimberly players would have wanted to take to the bank, but things quickly go south despite having a fantastic read on the situation.
The clip features fierce’s Kimberly going up against a Rashid player online. Things kick right off with Rashid halfway through the animation of his level 2 super, which sends out a massive tornado that slowly moves across the screen as Kimberly is getting up from a knockdown.
Fierce makes a fantastic read, expecting the Rashid to use the tornado’s cover to run forward and start his offensive pressure. To stop it, the Kimberly player sticks out a crouching medium punch that Rashid runs right into, and on hit the normal is canceled into Kimberly’s level 1 super.
Locking Kimberly into the super animation allows her to bypass the tornado and get to the other side of it, which essentially gets her fully out of harm’s way. With the tornado now behind Kimberly and still traveling in the same direction, one might think Kim is totally safe now, right? Well…
The last part of Kimberly’s level 1 super animation sees her take a large leap backward to create some distance and throw one of her spray cans at the opponent. Unfortunately for fierce and Kimberly here, she jumps all the way back and lands right back into Rashid’s tornado, and once the move’s animation concludes, Kim literally ends up completely locked inside Rashid’s level 2 super.
Thankfully, she doesn’t take a hit and is still able to block, but even with that being the case Kim is now stuck in the super and Rashid has the ability to go in for pressure and mix ups.
This punish started out as what looked like a totally legit and awesome counter to Rashid’s powerful level 2 super for Kimberly. If you do attempt to use her level 1 to beat this move, just be aware that you might end up right back inside the turbulent wind.
