The eighth in Mortal Kombat 1’s line of free character skins was unveiled Friday as Ed Boon shared some brief footage of Golden Empress Sindel on his X page.
You get this royal new look simply for logging into Mortal Kombat 1 right now, and you can see exactly what you’ll be getting by hitting the jump below.
It’s an interesting time for fighting game DLC and pricing strategy as the games that are coming out now are, in some significant ways, much different from those that released even just a few years back as technology has evolved and allowed for so much more potential.
Downloadable content is now a routine facet of the gaming experience, and so expectations for initial price tags, gaming content, and prices for inevitable post launch content has led to some difficult negotiations between developers and consumers.
NetherRealm Studios got into some hot water earlier in Mortal Kombat 1’s infancy thanks to some add-on content that came across as a little greedy to many fans, and so it seems these free costumes are (at least in part) a good faith gesture to ensure fans are feeling like they’re getting an appropriate amount of bang for their bucks.
Golden Empress Sindel lives up to its name as we see the murderous monarch adorned with flowing golden armor. Obtaining this skin is as simple as logging in, heading to Sindel’s section of the customization mode and checking the Palettes section. Here are a few stills of the costume:
