Marisa has the highest damage output potential in Street Fighter 6, and yet she’s not regarded as top tier. Akuma has a powerful combination of neutral tools, damage output, and options out of his special moves, and yet it’s not obvious he’s one of the best. Lots of characters boast plenty of stand out tools, and yet they don’t seem to have the sauce to make it to the top.

In his latest video MC Mura takes a closer look at what exactly makes the best characters in Street Fighter 6 the best, and aims to hone in on the recipe for most consistent success.

While the object and basic approach to the game stays consistent, the means of achieving it differs in slight but potent ways from Street Fighter to Street Fighter.

Various mechanics tend to affect the flow of battle. For instance more defensive options is going to naturally mean that pressure isn’t going to be as fruitful, and therefore characters who can stick on you but do relatively low damage aren’t going to thrive in the same way those who lop off larger chunks of health bars with single hits and combos will in the same atmosphere.

Street Fighter 6 is widely shaped by its Drive System, which is versatile on paper, but after over a year of playing users have found that the offensive aspects of the mechanic tend to be the most impactful.

In a game where offensive reigns supreme, the characters that can pounce while keeping risk to themselves at a minimum are naturally going to soar, which is why MC Mura highlights both Ken and Rashid as two of the strongest characters in the game.

The rabbit hole goes deeper as conversions, corner carry, and other elements make their way into the equation after pounce potential, and you can find out how Mura feels they all gel together and thus why certain characters are top tiers while others aren’t in the full video here.
