Street Fighter 6’s version of E. Honda has two moves in particular that are a thorn in a lot of people’s sides. His Sumo Headbutt and his butt slam were both considered very strong when the game first launched, but even now that many of us know how to counter them properly, they can still be super annoying to deal with.
Generally speaking, perfect parries are the main way we see players counter these attacks, though well-timed uppercuts work as well. However, this Manon punish for Honda’s butt slam from Joey_FGC is not only strange, but is well thought out and godlike — and you really should see it.
In the clip, we see Joey going up against a Honda player online. With the sumo cornered, Joey’s Manon starts to back up and give the opponent space to essentially make a mistake and get a huge punish for it.
Well, that’s exactly what happens here. Joey creates enough room for the Honda to feel comfortable enough to throw out a random butt slam.
Joey was ready for the inevitable special move, and as a result pulls off something I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. In this situation, Joey jumps forward, which allows Manon to just barely slip under and past E. Honda and hit behind the sumo with a jumping medium kick.
The air normal leaves Honda descending in a juggle state, and Manon is able to pick him back up with her OD up kick, then convert that into a full Drive Rush combo into level 3 super. As you might imagine, this is enough to close out the round and earn Joey the game win.
This is not only an impressive play overall, but it is also a great example of players who play lower tier characters really studying and learning every option they have in as many situations as possible. From everything I can see here, this whole situation was calculated and done on reaction, making it all the more beautiful of a highlight.
