FGC content creator JMCrofts recently put together a video that analyzed and selected the #1 character in every Street Fighter game starting with Street Fighter 1 and going all the way up to Street Fighter 6. A list like this is bound to ruffle some feathers as everyone has their own opinions on these things, but apparently, none of JMCrofts’ picks for best in the game were as contentious as who he chose for Street Fighter 3: Third Strike.
In honor of Third Strike being a main stage Evo game this year and the hype showing the game had at Combo Breaker last month, Crofts has put together a brand new Street Fighter 3: Third Strike tier list. While you might be able to guess who he has at the top of the heap, his #1 pick will undoubtedly make some people fairly unhappy…
JMCrofts starts his latest video out by reminding viewers that these are his opinions and obviously aren’t the end all be all for the game. He goes on to explain that he is not only ranking every single character in Third Strike based on how strong (or not) they are, but also lets us know if he feels the character is worth learning here in 2024 as competitive Third Strike is seeing a bit of a resurgence right now.
We’re not going to give all of his rankings away, but let’s begin with the weakest character in Third Strike. Unsurprisingly, JMCrofts places Sean at the bottom of the barrel.
While Sean was definitely a threat in the previous version of Street Fighter 3, Second Impact, he was toned down heavily in Third Strike and made overall a lot worse. He does have solid normals in crouching medium kick and crouching heavy kick, but with a crazy slow heavy uppercut (relatively speaking), as well as several normals and special moves that are unsafe and punishable on hit, JMCrofts places Sean in the “Mega Trash” tier on his new Third Strike tier list.
Speaking of which, Crofts’ tier list is organized into categories that start with “Mega Trash,” and ascend through D tier, C tier, B, A, S tier, and finally God tier. If you’ve been following Third Strike for a little while, then you probably already know who is going to end up in the God Tier section…
And thus, we come to JMCrofts’ contentious #1 pick. Traditionally, both Yun and Chun-Li are considered the best in the entire game when it comes to Third Strike, and this is no secret to anyone.
However, let’s just say that JMCrofts’ pick between the two is definitely going to have one part of the fanbase hitting the comments section.
