Back in February, Evo 2024’s mainstage lineup was revealed to consist of Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1, Guilty Gear Strive, The King of Fighters 15, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes, and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike.
According to Evo staff on X, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike has recently surpassed 1,000 entrants. This means that Evo 2024 is now slated to be the largest singles Third Strike event of all time.
A few months back, Evo teased the early registration leaderboard for Evo 2024. Though we weren’t told how many entrants were participating for each game, we were informed as to which games had the most registrations.
As expected, Street Fighter 6 proved to be the top dog back then. Tekken 8 seemingly followed closely at second place. Guilty Gear Strive, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike took third, fourth, and fifth place respectively.
Assuming that the leaderboard maintained its placements as more people signed up, then it would mean that the top five games on the list have over 1,000 entrants each. However, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to think that Third Strike could overtake GBVSR or possibly even Strive.
Things are shaping up to be rather interesting for Street Fighter fans considering that Evo Moment #37 originally happened, as the name of the event implies, at Evo 2004 during a match that took place between Justin Wong and BST|Daigo Umehara.
Needless to say, we could be in store for some hype moments at this year’s Evo considering the scope of the event at this point.
