You may have been around during the decades wherein the many titles included in the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics or you may be part of the new guard who have primarily only heard about the ridiculousness and hype that came out of said titles, either way there’s reason to be excited for the collection.
We’ve yet to get a release date beyond “2024” for MvCFC, but those in attendance at Evo this year had a chance to experience it early, and Rooflemonger has come out with a video sharing his impressions of the nostalgic bundle.
First and foremost, these games come from eras characterized by a lot less refinement than the one we’re in today. That means titles like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Clash of Superheroes included plenty of over the top bugs and unbalanced sequences like infinite combos.
By modern standards such things would be scoffed at as oversights and rapidly patched out to preserve balance, but in these older titles they retain a certain charm and add a sense of nostalgic fun to the mix.
One of the first questions that came to many old school Versus players minds’ has been whether or not any of these more egregious game-breakers might be patched out or changed at all as we reintroduce old games into modern times, but Rooflemonger assures us from his hands on experience that we’re getting exactly what we had back in the day.
That’s actually not 100% accurate, actually, as while we still have crazy interactions and broken abilities, Capcom has gone back and added modern investigatory tools such as training modes and hit/hutbox viewers.
Now exploration of the older titles will be much more expedited, and new fans will have expressways available that will help them quickly start to make up the ground between themselves and those who have been playing for decades.
This is all just one topic Rooflemonger covers in his reaction video, and you can see a bigger picture of what’s to come with the MvC Fighting Game Collection by viewing his full video below.
