SNK fans are eating great this week as the next DLC characters set to join King of Fighters 15, Vice and Mature, were officially unveiled via a sweet new gameplay trailer. The very next day, Capcom went and revealed our first in-game look at Mai Shiranui in Street Fighter 6 by way of a teaser trailer that showcased her World Tour Mode introduction.
Yes, it’s been a busy week for fighting game fans and content creators, with Mai in Street Fighter 6 being the biggest talk of the town due to everyone simply dying to know what she’d look like in the game’s graphics engine. Well, Mai has been shown, and the fighting game community has responded by sharing their reaction videos to the new Street Fighter 6 Mai teaser trailer which detail how a lot of us are currently feeling about her right now.
Among those who shared full-on reaction videos you’ll find the likes of Maximilian, Rooflemonger, Smug, Tyrant, and VesperArcade.
Beginning with Max’s take on the upcoming DLC character, the prominent content creator appears to be excited for the fighter, but has some concerns about her looks here with this early appearance. He points out that she looks good overall, but that her face looks a bit off here in Street Fighter 6.
He goes on to mention that he had similar concerns about Terry when we first saw his Street Fighter 6 teaser trailer, but once we saw him on the actual fighting end of things (not just single player World Tour Mode version), he ended up looking a whole lot better. This was also true about other DLC characters such as Ed, so if you’re worried about Mai’s face here you can rest assured that she will likely look quite a bit better when we see her gameplay trailer.
Rooflemonger, who is a massive SNK fan, goes further into this teaser trailer to point out some of the things we see as part of her potential move set. Her trademark Hissatsu Shinobi Bachi can be seen on display in the teaser, and Roof also mentions an animation that appears to be inspired by one of her regular throws.
We also see what appears to be her Dragon Blast flip kick special move, which many were wondering if we’d see return in Street Fighter 6. This move effectively acts as her invincible reversal attack, and she historically doesn’t have many defensive options as part of her toolkit, as Rooflemonger explains.
Dudley pioneer Smug delves a bit more into his predictions for what he thinks Mai is going to be like when she actually becomes playable.
“She’s like the female version of Guile. She’s got a projectile and she can follow up behind it, and if you try to jump she anti-airs,” Smug began.
“She’s going to be mad broken. I think she’s going to be cheaper than Terry. I’m calling it! There’s no way she’s going to be low tier in Street Fighter 6.”
