TheMainManSWE discusses why the removal of defensive options in Tekken 8 Season 2 has been so controversial

The Tekken 8 Season 2 patch was dropped earlier this week. This update features some of the most dramatic changes that the game has seen thus far.

Despite the development team stating that they wanted to dial back on the offense for the game, the changes don’t really reflect that. As such, players of all skill levels are very unhappy about the current state of Tekken 8.

The impact of these changes has resulted in Tekken 8 being reviewed as overwhelmingly negative over on Steam. Many pro players have also taken to X to express their disappointment with Season 2.

TheMainManSWE recently released a video breaking down why the meta for Tekken 8 is in a problematic place right now. Within the video, TheMainManSWE emphasizes how Tekken 8 now has “zero competitive integrity.”

Even though blocking and side stepping have received some buffs, none of this seems to matter as many of the new moves added to Tekken 8 simply lack counterplay. For example, King always has access to a mix up that all players must equally respect.

Since everyone is forced to deal with the same situations, it’s argued that Tekken 8 is very lacking in terms of skill expression. According to TheMainManSWE, this has resulted in a game that nobody wants to see in the competitive format.
