Here is what happened:
The text describes the story of Jimmy Keene, who was arrested for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and sentenced to 10 years to life. However, after just 10 months, he was given a chance at freedom under the condition that he gather a confession from suspected killer Larry DeWayne Hall.
Larry DeWayne Hall grew up in Wabash, Ind., and took an interest in Civil War re-enactments. Detectives believe that he has killed at least 20 women. Although he has only been convicted of one murder, his conviction was later overturned.
In prison, Jimmy became friends with Larry, who confessed to the murder of 15-year-old Jessica Roach. Larry was later convicted of kidnapping and murdering Jessica, but his conviction was overturned. Jimmy continued to prod Larry for answers and brought up the case of 19-year-old Tricia Reitler, to whom Larry admitted killing before confessing to multiple other kidnappings and killings.
Larry is currently serving a life sentence in North Carolina for the kidnapping of Jessica. Author Christopher Hawley Martin believes that Larry may offer more details about his alleged crimes to investigators if he was granted immunity.
