While some of us are still trying to crack 2000 MR with top tier characters, Yukarisandesuyo is soaring through Legend rank with Blanka. Not only has the Japanese player reached the top of the charts with the Brazilian character, he’s done so with a handicap.
This is the focus of Broski’s latest video as he takes a closer look at Yukari’s bonkers Blanka. Continue on to see exactly why Yukari’s achievement is so surprising.
Though we don’t tend to hear about it as much as we did when Street Fighter 6 first came out around the middle of last year, the game does still feature simplified inputs in the form of “Modern Controls.” Modern controls offer assistance to those who aren’t all that keen on learning the muscle memory required for special attacks by turning motion inputs into single presses.
For instance, if you want to throw a Ryu fireball with classic controls you’d need to perform a quarter circle forward on the control stick and then press a punch, but with modern you simply press the action button and Ryu will do the rest. You can get an uppercut by pressing forward and the action button, or a hurricane kick by pressing back instead.
This simplified approach not only promotes accessibility, but naturally makes executing certain moves a small but significant bit faster. This comes with some costs, however, as specials performed with modern inputs do a 20% less damage. On top of that, you lose access to a handful of normal moves and thus their arsenal shrinks.
You’ve probably put together by now the fact that Yukari uses modern controls Blanka, and it just so happens that the moves Blanka loses under the simplified scheme are notably more crucial to his kit than most of those his roster mates.
Broski shows us just how much Blanka forfeits by going modern before digging into a few of Yukari’s replays to see exactly how he pulls off such success with a clearly nerfed version of a mid tier (give or take) character.
