The team behind THE CHOSEN TV series are actively invested in bringing amazing content to life. The Chosen has become something of a phenomenon globally. Without doubt, they’ve set a new standard for the way they bring to life stories from the Bible on our screens.
The organisation behind The Chosen, Angel Studios, are now bringing us a feature film on a Bible story that has never been told before.
His Only Son recounts one of the most controversial moments in the Old Testament – when Abraham was commanded by God to sacrifice his son Isaac on the mountain of Moriah. While traveling to the place of the sacrifice, alongside Isaac and two servants, Abraham is flooded with vivid memories from the years he and Sarah spent longing for the son they were promised – the son he must now lay upon the altar.
His Only Son will be released in cinemas across Australia and New Zealand from March 30, in the lead up to the Easter season this year. Local Australian film company, MOVIES CHANGE PEOPLE, are delighted to announce that they are busy working to ensure the film is available in cinemas around the country in time for Easter.
Founder of MOVIES CHANGE PEOPLE, Rod Hopping, said that he is delighted to be working with Angel Studios on the release of His Only Son.
MOVIES CHANGE PEOPLE began in 2004 and many may also know of them as Heritage Films, the company who introduced Australia to films like The Passion Of The Christ, Amazing Grace, Paul, Apostle of Christ, Risen and most recently, Man of God.
“We’ve never seen a story about Abraham, Sarah and Isaac on our screens before. His Only Son presents us with a riveting account of the angst that Abraham went through in the journey towards the mountain of Moriah. The film is beautifully shot and acted, making for a deeply engaging story experience. The conclusion of the film will amaze as it subtly points us all towards the cross,” Rod said about His Only Son.
Over the years MOVIES CHANGE PEOPLE have assisted thousands of church and community groups engage with films in a shared experience. “We love working behind the scenes to make sure the film is where you need it to be for your group to experience it together,” Rod noted. “His Only Son offers an incredible opportunity to not just witness a never told before biblical story on film, but also allows us to enjoy high-quality storytelling that is both entertaining and impactful,” said Rod.
Watching a movie like His Only Son together as a group is easier post-Covid. It’s possible to hold your own cinema screening with as little as 50 people, and for smaller groups it’s just a matter of making sure you know when and where the film is playing and heading out together.
A relatively unknown part of releasing movies in cinemas is that the first four days make or break a movie. All new release movies come out on Thursdays in Australia and if attendance over the first four days is strong, the film will stay in cinemas and play longer, becoming more accessible for everyone. The opposite happens if the first four days are low in attendance, with the film disappearing quickly from cinemas and being almost impossible to find.
Rod noted that, “This creates quite a lot of pressure and can often make it hard to release great films in cinemas first. The mission to have the largest audience and for the film to be accessible as far and wide as possible, is always at the core of our decision-making, even though this dynamic is very risky. If you like the look of His Only Son and would love a wonderful movie experience, it would be very helpful for the life of the film if you got out over the opening weekend.”
The Chosen became the No. 1 crowdfunded media project in history, raising over $11 million from more than 16,000 investors who wanted to see season one made.
