The Social Democratic Party, SDP's House of Assembly candidate gunning to represent Calabar Municipality State Constituency at Saturday's guber and State House of Assembly elections in Cross River State has disclosed that the Holy Writ of Christians motivated him into politics.
He said this early this week on his social media handle in the attempt to clarify grey areas surrounding the question possed to him by an electorate bothering why he is vying for public office. He cited the Book of Judges in chapter 9.
According to him, 'The Scripture has said it all. Those who have something good to offer God and humanity have refused to go out and hold leadership positions thereby leaving the thorn bushes (brambles) to do so. In their desperate approach they engage cultists, rituals and all sorts of satanic activities to earn power over the people.
'These people they hope to reign over, include the poor masses who look up to them for a living. The poor are made to dwell under their shadow, those who refuse to do so are considered to be disloyal, thus, humiliated, thier businesses frustrated. The brambles have nothing to offer God and man but also grow, looking good and green just like other trees in the forest. So are our desperate thorn bush rulers.
'Please let us rise up as a people with our PVCs and vote against the brambles on the 9th of March 2019. Let those who have something to offer humanity also build up courage to contest elections on what ever political party platform of thier choice.'
Continuing, he said 'It must not only be the PDP or APC where we have the same set of people with a common mindset crossing from one platform to the other all for thier personal gains while the poor masses suffer as thier policies are mostly meant to favour thier given state of mind. I hear people say” The party is supreme”. This must stop henceforth if we have to make progress. I say “The candidate is supreme” owing to the fact that the candidate is real while the party is abstract.
'Once the party is declared victorious by INEC, then, a human being appears only to reveal the content of his character not even the manifesto of the Party.'
In a phone interaction with Edim, he was confident that he would be declared winner of the House of Assembly elections in his Constituency. His words, 'with the feelers I have through the 55 zones that constitute the Constituency, I am confident that the elections will be in my favour'.
