Now imagine if this was a brand new game
Today saw the announcement of something that fighting game fans deemed impossible (or at least highly improbable) just a couple of years ago, and it’s sparked a lot of excitement and good feelings.
With the surprise reveal of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics at the latest Nintendo Direct, the FGC of course had a lot of reactions to what they didn’t see coming.
There was of course the top fighting game streamer Maximilian Dood watching the event live, who helped spearhead the #FREEMVC2 internet campaign all the way back in 2021 trying to get a new release of the fan-favorite title that finally bears fruit.
He couldn’t hold back from mostly screaming and shouting expletives along with “What is happening!” during the initial watch before the realization starts to fully sink in.
The man with the most Marvel Evo championships, Justin Wong, had to watch his language, however, considering he was viewing the stream with his daughter though he got to pop off harder on the subsequent looks.
OMFG MARVEL VS CAPCOM COLLECTION!!!! ON THE SWITCH??!?! PLEASE TELL ME ITS NOT JUST ON THE SWITCH

Another former MvC2 winner in IFC|YipeS had some things to say though not all of it was legible aside from running tournaments for the game again, but unfortunately it seems we don’t have his live reaction to the news.
So uhhhhhh I had it planned already a while back to do Mvc2 @canopenerseries….but uhhhhhh
Wow…..
WHAT A DROP!!!!!

What we did get the crowd cam for were those in attendace at the actual Nintendo New York building that erupted into nothing but screams and hype especially from Anderson Blitz.
My reaction to #MarvelVsCapcomFightingCollection at @NintendoNYC #DreamsComeTrue #capcom #marvel #marvelvscapcom the definition of dreams coming true as this is another amazing birthday gift from Capcom pic.twitter.com/G3riTS08vc

Beyond that, there were talks about new features, the potential for Marvel vs. Capcom 4, and how this is cool and all, but Capcom vs. SNK still hasn’t gotten a rollback release yet — along with some coping over Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 getting a netcode upgrade too.
IF Marvel vs Capcom 4 is happening…
We probably won’t see it until the Mutant Saga.
So in the meantime, support the MvC Fighting Collection to gauge interest pic.twitter.com/A7Ez53Ft9t

Marvel collection is cool, although stuff like MvC2 has had official release rollback netcode before.
You know what franchise hasn’t had a proper collection, or official rollback netcode support for that would be really, REALLY FRIGGIN COOL TO HAVE? pic.twitter.com/kc5kTcvQzq

Marvel and Capcom releasing product together in 2024. It’s time to start dreaming again.
Now praying to all the netcode gods.

Between the new Marvel collection, FF7 Rebirth, SF6, a new Mana game coming out, on and on, I’ve never been happier with gaming than I am right now.
It may not be ideal that this era of video games is aimed squarely at a 44 year old man who misses being 21, but I’ll take it.

surely this marvel vs capcom news is leading to marvel 3 rollback
right fellas
right fellas

We can’t go forgetting about some of the memes either as a new generation will come to realize how busted the Marvel games are.
Don’t be shocked at your MVC2 locals when you see someone come in with this tank of a joystick, take off their Jordans and sit on the floor to beat your ass with 20 year old tech pic.twitter.com/zOHuswA8NN

The crash and burn of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite back in 2017 appeared as though it would potentially poison the well between the companies forever, but reconciliation and collaboration have finally returned in a way that fans have been begging for 10 years about since the delisting of the previous MvC collections / ports.
The Arcade1UP Marvel vs. Capcom cabinets were the first steppingstoen, and now one of the most important video game crossovers is about to be readily available once again.
Now we just need that release date.
