Now that the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is in the hands of the people, players everywhere are checking out all of its offerings. With seven classic Capcom titles (six of them fighting games), this compilation holds a lot of history and fun for both those who are longtime fans and those who are just starting out.
Major Versus series fan and combo wizard Desk has been digging into the new collection to put together videos that introduce new players to some of its more interesting details. Instead of basic combo guides and tutorials, Desk’s latest video targets the best Easter eggs / references, the history, and crazy combos in X-Men vs. Street Fighter, and this time the spotlight shines on the X-Men side of the roster.
This new video acts as part 2 of the series, and last time we got a look at all of the aforementioned things for the Street Fighter portion of the cast. From infinite combos after Akuma’s Raging Demon super to some quirky references to Street Fighter’s past, there is a lot to learn in part 1.
Marvel’s side of the X-Men vs. Street Fighter roster includes Sabretooth, Magneto, Storm, Wolverine, Cyclops, Juggernaut, Rogue, and Gambit. What makes this series great is that while the Street Fighter crew are characters we’re all very familiar with and know most of where they came from offhand, Desk’s latest video delves into the first appearance of each of these Marvel characters as well, which aren’t so obvious.
For example, though Sabretooth is best known for being a prominent X-Men series villain, he actually made his debut in an issue of Iron Fist back in 1977. Speaking of Sabretooth, this vicious contender also has one of the simplest infinite combos in XvSF, which can be performed by hitting jumping medium punch, jumping heavy punch, and jumping heavy kick in succession over and over again.
As far as awesome Easter eggs and references go, X-Men vs. Street Fighter certainly has some great ones. Magneto’s ending easily holds one of the best as it sees him defeating M. Bison and essentially becoming the head of Shadaloo with Sagat, Balrog, and Vega following his lead and recreating a classic scene from back in Street Fighter 2.
