Terry is here and the fans seem to be enjoying the mainline Street Fighter series’ first ever guest character in Street Fighter 6 quite a bit. The popular SNK icon brings some interesting tools to the table, and despite initial impressions from his gameplay trailer, this fighter surprised players with how technical he actually is to play.
But a higher learning curve hasn’t stopped the pros from entering the ring with the new Street Fighter 6 DLC character to grind and learn everything they can about him. As we also aim to learn more, today we’re taking a look at what the #1 ranked Terry Bogard player in the world (Naruo), the #2 ranked Terry (Mago), and one of the best players in the world, Punk, are doing in competitive, high level online bouts to better understand how this fighter functions in the thick of it.
At the time of writing this, Naruo is the #1 ranked Terry for MR in the world. With 2,204 MR, Naruo leads the race, though Mago follows closely with an even 2,200 MR for the character.
In our review, we noted that Terry has a ton of options at his disposal, but how and when to use them requires quite a bit of thought and calculation. This seems to ring true with how the top level players are currently playing him.
In neutral, Naruo and Mago appear to fish for confirms a lot with buttons like crouching medium punch and crouching medium kick. Punk, on the other hand, is utilizing standing heavy kick often as this attack is safe on block when spaced out properly and crumples the opponent when it punish counters.
When a hit is landed, the order of the day for Terry is confirm into a Drive Rush cancel or target combo into a special move to carry the opponent toward the corner. Once there, it’s pressure city using fireballs and well placed normals to keep them in check.
We also get to see glimpses of some of Terry’s side switching abilities as Naruo and Mago showcase a handful of different ways of doing so. You’ll definitely want to be on the look out for these set ups as Terry can really dominate once he has his foe cornered.
