Street Fighter 6 fans are chomping at the bit to get hold of the game’s next DLC character, SNK’s Terry Bogard, and Capcom continues to offer appetizers during our long wait for his September 24 release as they’ve allowed content creators like Maximilian Dood to record gameplay footage.
While there’s still tons to explore from the 9-special move newcomer, Max does offer answers to a lot of initial questions Terry fans are naturally going to have. Before he shares details on command inputs, feel, flow, and other more intricate gameplay nuances, Max shows us what Terry’s single most powerful attack, Critical Art, looks like.
We saw Terry’s standard level 3 super back when his trailer debuted last week, which is more or less just an enhanced version of his Rising Tackle. He performs his spinning, upwards special kick to carry his foe into the sky while nailing them with a handful of consecutive hits, then lands back on the ground and leaps up to perform yet another more powerful Rising Tackle before finishing the animation off with a vicious airborne punch to their gut.
This level 3 is okay, but certainly not the most cinematic Street Fighter 6 has to offer. As with all characters, when Terry’s health is below 25% his level 3 automatically becomes his Critical Art, which doles out a little more damage and has a unique animation.
During his Critical Art, which Max begins his gameplay showcase and breakdown video with, Terry begins in a similar fashion by launching his foe with an elaborate Rising Tackle but then utilizes two other trademark special moves in the ensuing animation.
Terry returns to the earth and goes for his Power Geyser ground pound, which causes a huge explosion and launches him back up into the air to meet his reeling opponent. Terry flies like Superman directly at his victim and nails them with a gnarly Buster Wolf that he rapidly follows up with a secondary explosion from his fist.
The Critical Art animation is, in our opinion, a decent bit better than Terry’s standard level 3, though thanks to Capcom’s clear attention to detail, he looks good in just about every sequence he goes through.
Max offers additional snippets of relevant information as we learn that Rising Tackle (traditionally a charge move) is performed with the traditional Dragon Punch input, how he has tons of target combos, and his great potential for extended combos.
Terry Bogard has over 30 years of history to incorporate into his latest appearance, and Max notes how some of his traditional approaches remain while others have been tweaked.
Some moves have different inputs, or function a bit differently than they used to, but it looks like we’re getting a version of the character that will be faithful to his past but freshened up for the present in all the right ways.
Want more Terry while you wait for him to arrive in Street Fighter 6? There are a ton of Easter eggs players have found that reference tons of the character’s past appearances in Fatal Fury and King of Fighters titles.
