There’s a whole lot we still need to learn and optimize with Terry Bogard in Street Fighter 6. The mainline Street Fighter series’ first ever guest fighter is now officially part of the game’s roster via Season 2 DLC, and so far, it seems as though the newcomer is a big hit among fans.
Despite having a tried and true tool kit that spans over 30 years, Terry is has some surprisingly complex elements to his fighting style in Street Fighter 6. There also appear to be hidden traits and Easter eggs baked into his move set, and we recently learned that Terry has a “just frame” version of one of his target combos that gives him more damage and better positioning when done properly.
Prominent commentator and content creator Sajam shared a quick video on Twitter that runs through a couple of lesser known traits found within Terry’s attacks.
For starters, some may not know that Terry has the ability to slightly delay the follow up of his level 2 super. This makes it so that certain juggles at certain heights properly connect, and in some scenarios, delaying can cause the second attack to hit meaty and allow for a better juggle.
But the more interesting bit of tech we have here can be found in Terry’s Power Dunk target combo. This attack begins with a standing medium punch and transitions into a big kick into the Fatal Fury fighter’s trademark dunk.
This target combo is interesting in that the first and second hit don’t combo normally, but can with added frame advantage from Drive Rush, on counter hit, and from specific ranges. Even more interesting, though, is that the final hit of this target combo has a just frame version that, when performed with the proper timing, adds more damage and better oki.
The term “just frame” in fighting games essentially means hitting something on a specific frame of the attack or cancel. A common example most Street Fighter 6 players might know is Luke’s perfect Flash Knuckle or Guile’s perfect Sonic Booms.
Similar to those attacks, the final hit of Terry’s Power Dunk also gets added benefits when done correctly. On counter hit, the full target combo deals 2,350 damage, but the just frame version dishes out 2,490 damage.
Much like Terry’s Burning Knuckle on block, the just frame Power Dunk also has a visual tell that lets you know when you’ve done it correctly. You’ll see a slight screen shake when the final hit lands if you managed to get the timing right.
You can see a thorough demonstration of the just frame Power Dunk in Sajam’s clip below.
