Terry Bogard hasn’t even been released for Street Fighter 6 yet, but many FGC notables are already taking notice of his top tier tools. Needless to say, the release of Terry Bogard’s official character introduction guide just yesterday seems to be reinforcing this idea within the fighting game community.
As a quick review of what the introduction guide revealed, Terry is a character that’s said to excel at both offense and defense. He also appears to be relatively simple to play, but there are a few advanced tactics that can be employed to make him more rewarding.
For example, Terry’s Burning Knuckle has him rushing forward with a thrust punch from across the screen. If the opponent blocks this up close, Terry will be relatively easy to punish.
However, if Terry spaces this properly so that the move hits at the latter half of the attack, he’ll actually be left at an advantageous position. In other words, the opponent will immediately have to deal with a frame trap of some sort.
Similarly, Terry’s “fake” Power Wave (the Round Wave) doesn’t really travel like a traditional projectile, but will leave Terry at an advantage on block. Meanwhile, Terry can choose to fight fireball users with either his light or medium Power Wave projectiles, which will either collide with or go under traditional projectiles.
Alternatively, Terry can also use his Crack Shoot special with the correct spacing to maneuver over projectiles altogether. If the Overdrive version of Crack Shoot is used against an airborne opponent, Terry will even be able to tack on additional damage with a follow up of some sort.
Overall, it really feels like Terry is getting access to a number of tools that any top tier would want in their kit. True to his character description, it does seem like Terry excels in terms of his offensive and defensive capabilities.
Needless to say, many notables within the FGC have taken notice of these top tier qualities. Upon seeing the character guide in action, many are already predicting that SNK’s first guest in Street Fighter 6 will have a strong impact in the meta upon his release.
This is clearly a character with a lot of nifty tools to work with. It’s easy to see how his ability to maintain pressure and get around fireballs will be incredibly powerful in the current meta.
Indeed, it really feels like Terry has a little bit of everything. Of course, it’s probably a good idea to make the first third-party guest character in the Street Fighter series be strong.
Ultimately though, we’ll have to wait until September 24, 2024 to see if Terry is able to live up to the hype. Check out all the responses to Terry’s character introduction guide below:
