Ten Hag Battle To Retain Coaching Job At Manchester United Ahead FA Cup Clash Against Manchester City

Erik Ten Hag’s future as Manchester United manager is hanging by a thread ahead of the FA Cup final encounter against rivals Manchester City on Saturday.

The Dutch manager led the club to their lowest ever finish in the history of the Premier League, coupled with series of poor performances which made them miss out of European qualification via the league.

The Red Devils finished eighth on the league table, which has led to speculations that he will be sacked regardless of the result against Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

The former Ajax manager is not concerned about speculations on his future, saying he is only focused on the showdown at Wembley.

He has guided Manchester United to a second consecutive FA Cup final, and he is hopeful of winning it this time around.

Ten Hag said, “I am just focusing on the job I have to do and that is to first win the game on Saturday and then we are in the project. Keep going in the project.

“I came here to win trophies. Saturday I have the next opportunity and we achieved this, earned this opportunity as a team and now we have to go for it.

“At the same time, in the last two years, of course after every season you review it and then we will see where we are in the project and things we have to change.

“We spoke lately about it. Underneath there are very good things – players coming up, players developing, values coming up. And, in the same time, we have on Saturday a big opportunity to win the next trophy.”

The likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Kieran McKenna, Roberto De Zerbi, Graham Potter, Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Frank have all been tipped to replace Erik Ten Hag as the manager of Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Erik Ten Hag has also provided injury updates ahead of the game on Saturday, confirming the absence of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Tyrrell Malacia. The trio of Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial are all expected to be back for the final.

Ten Hag said: “Maguire is unavailable, It’s just he didn’t make it, didn’t heal as we expected, all the players you mentioned (Lindelof, Mount and Martial), are all available.”

Manchester City will be aiming to add the FA Cup trophy to the Premier League title they won for the fourth consecutive time last week, while Manchester United will be eyeing their first trophy of the season.
