Nigerian music continues to make waves across the globe as Tems and Rema have earned spots on former United States President Barack Obama’s 2024 Summer playlist.
The playlist, unveiled by Obama in a tweet on Monday night, comprises 44 songs that have been on rotation for the ex-president this summer.
Among the various lineup are two Nigerian tracks: “Love Me Jeje” by Tems and “Yayo” by Rema, showcasing Obama’s appreciation of the global influence of Afrobeats.
Other songs include, “Them Belly Full” by Bob Marley ft The Wailers, “Texas Hold ‘Em” by Beyoncé, “You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me” by The Miracles, and “Wanna Be” by Megan Thee Stallion ft GloRilla.
Obama hopes that listeners would discover something new from his curated selection.
“With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately – and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to,” he tweeted alongside the list.
It has become tradition for Obama to provide a snapshot of his musical tastes which cut across different genres and artists.
