Tekken 8’s Season 2 update was not really what players were looking for considering it tanked the game’s Steam reviews to “Overwhelmingly Negative” upon release, and the developers are making some more adjustments now to try and appease their base.
Bandai Namco just released the emergency update patch notes for the incoming Version 2.00.02 update for Tekken 8 that will attempt to undo / mitigate some of the damage caused by the last one.
Out of everything in the update, players have been generally unhappy with the shifts made to the game to make it even more offensive based than Season 1, which is not what the developers said their goal was originally.
There’s more safe moves, 50/50 setups and tracking moves that skewed the gameplay to those pressing the buttons that led to big combos and fast rounds.
It also led to three-time Evo champion DRX|Knee calling Tekken 8 “selfish” and laying out a list of nine issues he has with the game.
To try and address this in part, Bamco is increasing the max health values of the cast so they can withstand more of a beating than before.
Moreover, they stated they are nerfing some overly high-reward moves as well as tuning the Heat System more to reduce the amount of chip damage dealt as one of the aspects.
We also know at least Paul and Jack-8 will be receiving some changes as well to address some of their unintended move buffs that could lead to unblockable or uninterruptable setups — and hopefully they take care of Anna’s move copying glitch too.
This update will be available in full once the current round of server maintenance for Tekken 8 ends tonight.
There’s another update planned for mid-May to address more specific moves and characters next month.
You can check out the full list of patch notes here as we continue to update the story, which can also be found on the official Tekken website.
