Tekken 8 just hit its three month mark since release and appears to be doing pretty well for itself (in terms of making money for Bandai Namco at least).
The NPD Group / Circana finally released the video game sales charts for the United States in March 2024, so we can see how the 3D fighter is still managing to perform in the country along with another major player in the genre hanging on to the ranks.
Reporting from March 3 through April 6, 2024, Tekken actually fell quite a ways in the monthly rankings but sales across the whole year continue to look strong.
From 5th place in February, Tekken dropped all the way to 15th in the NPD top 20 for best-selling digital and physical games in the U.S (after being 2nd in January).
That carries over to the individual platforms as well with Tekken not appearing in the top 10 for either PlayStation nor Xbox in March, which isn’t too surprising since we already saw it already fall off the digital PS5 sales charts recently.

As far as all of 2024, however, Tekken managed to hold on to 6th place in top sales after getting bumped down from 3rd last month by big new arrivals in MLB: The Show 24 and Dragon’s Dogma 2 — which actually scored the number one spot on the monthly chart as a hit for Capcom.
Interestingly, the 3D fighter is on a similar trajectory to Street Fighter 6 on the NPD charts since it dropped from 8th to 13th over pretty much the same time frame, which means we could see Tekken not chart at all in April if it continues this way.
It will be very interesting to see how Tekken actually did perform last month considering the recent user review rating on Steam was taken down to ‘Mostly Negative’ following a flawed update at the start of April and addition of the game’s battle pass.

Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat 1 is actually still trucking along for its seventh consecutive month on the NPD charts since it launched in September last year.
That streak may end up coming to an end soon too, however, as the Warner Bros. fighter is barely hanging on at the 20th spot in March’s ranking after being 18th in February.
Much the same could be about to happen for the year to date sales too since it’s also 20th on that chart now.
But at least MK1 finished out 2023 as the 8th best-selling game of the whole year compared to Street Fighter 6 at 17th.
We haven’t really heard anything from the companies themselves since Mortal Kombat’s 3 million sales and Tekken 8’s 2 million, so we’re very intrigued to know where all of the big fighters sit currently.
That’ll probably remain unknown, however, until more large milestones are reached.
