Teen Girl Killed, 8-year-old Sister Critical After Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver – QUEENS

June 26, QUEENS, New York – A teen girl was killed and her younger sibling critically injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver of a white truck in Sunnyside, Queens, police said.

According to police officials, a 16-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene and an 8-year-old girl suffered injuries throughout the body during the collision. The young child was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center with critical injuries

The white Ford truck was turning right on 46th street when the suspected driver struck the sisters as they were in the crosswalk and proceeded to drive southbound on 46th street leaving the scene, authorities said.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon at around 3:25 p.m., near 46 Street & 47 Avenue as many kids were leaving nearby I.S. 125 Thom J. McCann on the last day of the school year.

Police were briefly searching for the driver of a white Ford truck and located the vehicle along with operator about a block away from the fatal incident.

The driver was taken into custody with charges pending a full investigation.
