Japan is always exceptional in terms of rigid technology, Our wimpy

171 mph trains are nothing compared to Japan's amazing maglev trains,

which just set another incredible speed record of 366 mph. Central

Japan Railway achieved that speed, but it may last only until Tuesday,

when rival JR Central will try to reach 372 mph.

In service, the trains likely will probably motor at only 313 miles

per hour. The companies are eyeing American shores as well, hoping to

run high-speed maglev trains between Washington D.C. and New York at

speeds that would make the 150 mph Acela Express blush, potentially

completing the trip in less than an hour.
