The City of Tacoma’s Equity in Contracting (EIC) Program, in collaboration with the Washington State Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises (OMWBE), will host a two-part workshop series in January 2025 to assist businesses in navigating the OMWBE certification process. These workshops aim to support minority, women, and socially or economically disadvantaged business owners by providing critical information about certification and its benefits.
The first workshop, OMWBE Intro to Certification 101, will be held virtually on January 9, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Participants will learn about the City’s EIC Program and its efforts to address disparities for historically underutilized businesses. Topics will include federal and state certifications, tips for successfully completing the certification application, and details on required documentation. Attendees will also have an opportunity to connect with subject matter experts for guidance on opening their firms to new contracting opportunities.
The second workshop, OMWBE Certification 201, will be held on January 23, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. in a hybrid format. Participants can attend in person at the Tacoma Municipal Building, Room 248, or join virtually via Zoom. In-person attendance is strongly encouraged to maximize the opportunity to work directly with experts. During this session, participants will begin or complete their OMWBE certification applications. Attendees should bring necessary items, including a laptop or electronic device, financial statements, and other required paperwork, to ensure a smooth application process.
Both workshops will include a Q&A session, allowing attendees to ask questions about the certification process and seek personalized advice. Those who register will receive event details, including the address and Zoom link, on their screens, followed by calendar invitations to help secure the time on their schedules.
The City of Tacoma’s EIC Program is committed to addressing disparities and increasing opportunities for historically underutilized businesses. By partnering with the OMWBE, the City aims to provide comprehensive resources and hands-on support to help businesses succeed in the competitive contracting environment. Certification can open doors to federal, state, and local contracting opportunities, significantly expanding business prospects for certified firms.
