Here’s how it works
The latest DLC character for Mortal Kombat 1 has been added to the game this week. Following Quan Chi as the latest main roster DLC fighter to join the cast, this week brought Khameleon, a new Kameo Fighter into the mix.
The color-changing ninja has the ability to switch between three classic female ninja fighting styles throughout a match, granting her different abilities that work for different situations. When we first saw her, the switches were random, but there was an important change made to the launch version of the character that you ought to know.
Last month, NetherRealm Studios held a Kombat Kast live stream to show off Quan Chi and Khameleon ahead of their official launches. When we first saw Khameleon, it was explained that switching between her Kitana, Mileena, and Jade styles happened at random, which meant players would have to be hyper aware and reactive if they wanted to use the Kameo properly in battle.
This randomness had players a bit concerned that Khameleon might not be that great as far as the competitive side of things go, but Lead QA Analyst for Mortal Kombat 1, Stephanie Brownback, shared a very useful bit of information on Twitter when Khameleon was released.
She confirms that Khameleon was indeed random in the earlier build shown during the Kombat Kast, but for launch, the Kameo was changed to have an actual rotation between the ninjas.
“Khameleon fun fact: on the Kombat Kast her switching was random, however in the finished version of her the starting ninja is random but the order is set,” wrote Stephanie in the tweet. “Mileena > Jade > Kitana. Enjoy!”
This change improves the utility of the Khameleon Kameo Fighter greatly as players won’t have to guess which ninja is coming next during the heat of battle. As Stephanie said, you’ll start the match with a randomly selected ninja, but from there you can determine which one Khameleon will be switching to based on the above information tree.
And now you know!
