During Evo 2024, it was announced that SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos would be getting a rerelease on Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Similar to how the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics got some outstanding new artwork, there’s new artwork also being released for SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos.
As it turns out, this new artwork was created specifically for the rerelease by Eisuke Ogura, a graphic designer and illustrator that’s been with SNK since 1996. While the artwork itself is fantastic, fans have had a certain complaint about this new art piece.
More specifically, it turns out that there are actually two versions of the poster. One version of the poster appears to censor certain elements.
Initially, it was believed that us western audiences were getting the censored version of the artwork while Japanese audiences retained the original, uncensored edition. However, this doesn’t actually appear to be the case.
Rather, SNK appears to be using the uncensored version of the SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos poster for promotional purposes. Whereas the censored version — whether it be on the North American or Japanese versions of the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Steam pages — is being used for the store pages.
In the censored version, Mai Shiranui’s red and white kunoichi dress is less open, revealing less of her cleavage. Additionally, Princess Athena, who is dressed in what is effectively a bikini, is basically cropped off at the bottom of the poster.
