A suspected cultist of Government Secondary School, Atu Street, Calabar was yesterday 21 June lynched by the public. His corpse laid at the popular Mount Zion road by Inyang Edem street.
The story has it that the now late secondary school male student has a reputation for being notorious in school as he is understood to extort properties and monies of fellow students at gunpoint. In fact, in the morning of yesterday 21 June he, along with his fellow disoriented students, had robbed his school principal of his valuables. While the principal made attempt to invite the Police he ran away from the school environment with his fellow accomplices.
From Atu street, the location of their school, they made it to Uwanse street where they robbed 5 girls of 2 android devices. While they were being pursued, they made it to Inyang Edem where they shouted: Aro mate! The usual chants of a notorious cult group referred to as Baggers. This was said to infuriate residents of Inyang Edem, who upon understanding that these lots where escaping from a crime scene, pursued and succeeded in apprehending only one of them, surrounded him, gave him the beating of his life and finally lynched him by putting a used tire around his neck and set him ablaze.
This caused a scene at Mount Zion road by Inyang Edem street.

These scenes are becoming common in calabar and the victims are always young lads. This shows that we still have a lot of work to do in instilling positive values in the lives of our young people, especially in our secondary schools since that's where they spend most of their time. This is not the responsibility of the government or teachers alone. It starts from the family. Parents should lead by example. Teachers should desist from unwholesome acts like examination malpractices , etc., government should put more effort into bettering the lots of people to help sway the vulnerables from getting involved in acts that will warrant absurdities like this. This calls for a collective responsibility. Nigeria is our own, let's join our hands to make it great. Don't want to change it in the future. Start from where you are! Therein lies an opportunity for you to be the change you want to see.
